Either the show is written well or it isn't. Of all the complaints I personally have with Doctor Who, it has nothing to do with the Actors playing them. All of them have been great and would have been excellent if the writing wasn't utter dreck.

The fact that there are people seriously pissed about this is fucking absurd, if the ratings are tanking why not try something new, something different?

Not really sure how making the writing all about how he's a woman now is an improvement over space-cyborg race wars but if that's what you think is gonna save this show's writing then I can only give an incredibly small bit of optimism in return.

I am optimistic because the 13th Doctor has had precisely zero episodes released so far. Until then, there's no point in getting mad and if they fuck it up, oh well, its fucked now anyway.

Hoping for the best as well, didn't like Bill (black lesbian companion) when they announced her, but she was mostly well written. So there are people on the team who can write women.
 
Anyone who gives a shit about this is probably not a fan of the show anyway, or if they are, they're part of the reason the fanbase is hated.

A woman Doctor has always been a possibility. It's just that they picked a dumb time to do it when the show is dying and should be put down anyway.
 
I miss the good ol days when entertainment was entertaining, your favorite show wasn't a political statement and if you didn't like it, you could just change the channel to the baseball game.
 
The showrunner's name is only a few letters aways from "chris chan's balls" and Chris regenerated into a woman in his latest Sonichu comic. Surely this is just a coincidence and Chris isn't secretly a fucking prophet right?

Apparently she was in Broadchurch, the first series of which was rather good but the second was pants. I've never seen it so I have no idea what it's all about or anything.

Then idiots like Buzzfeed act like everyone is completely mad, rather than a tiny gathering of pinheads being goaded on by shitposters.

Nor the sentiment that TV shows should base what they do on whether it's really annoying instead of whether it will attract viewers. By that idea, Coca-Cola should make a new can that deliberately explodes and sprays you in the face when you open it, because being annoying is cool.
 
As I stated before in the main doctor who thread, the whole furore about the new doctor's gender means absolutely fucking nothing given how the show is gonna now be written/ran by the "genius" behind torchwood's first two season and who wrote some of the most cringy worst episodes in the show's canon (orgasm alien and cybertits) and is very likely to completely kill the show given how its already struggling in ratings.

In short its like the titanic appointed a female captain five seconds before they hit the iceberg. No matter how good she is, she has zero fucking hope of a good run, and indeed the sinking of the show may well be scapegoated on her by the showrunner/bbc once her episodes start bombing
