What fashion trends do you think suck?

I still have no idea how to dress myself. I don't like anything in stores and haven't in a while.
Some questions to ask yourself?
What do you like? What do you need it for ?
Work? Casual? Do you prefer fitted clothes or baggy? Natural fibres or can tolerate poly? Eccentric? Elegant? Vintage? Modern?

what shape and size are you? That matters too becasue some stores have a kind of set block of measurements (this is becoming less common though.)

I use almost completely online to find clothes, because I cannot find anything in the stores near me that fits (I’m short) or that I like. I love jumble sale messes like TK Max. because among the junk you can often find some sort of random sample sized thing that nobody else likes.

Thrift stores are so great too, for similar reasons. There's a whole lot of bullshit but that also means there's some complete gems hidden therein. I bought the most unique, best fitting pair of jeans I've ever seen in my life for a couple of dollars from one, and some of my staple statement dresses too.

If you're looking to emulate a certain style or 'aesthetic' (yuck I hate how much of a buzzword that's become), I'd also recommend focusing on secondhand/found pieces (thrifts, but also places like depop, very small businesses, curated vintage/secondhand, etc.). It kinda forces you to really focus in on what you're buying, as well as the key things you're looking for in a piece of clothing. If I buy a shirt from a shop, it's usually because I saw it, kinda liked it because it was designed to fit to a trend I kinda like, and they had it in my size; there's not a whole lot of thought there, and when you don't build your wardrobe with purpose, it becomes much harder to dress in a way that feels purposeful.

How are you supposed to run in those? You’d go over on an ankle surely?
They are usually very stable (ackshually!), at least if made well (Brooks, Hoka, NB). I've always been an Asics-wearer, but I now have a pair of Hokas that aren't even in their "stability" group but have those thick soles, and they are great for my weak ankle on one side. I wear them for purpose not fashion, but I like the look, too.

It really baffles me how Y2K refuses to go away, this 'revival' has been going on for what, 7-8 years now? The below pics are from 2019 for example.

Not a huge fan of barrel jeans that make you look like Yosemite Sam or the shorts that show the whole booty that the college kids wear here—mostly because the idea that they all sit down for classes with their bare cheeks.

Though apparently a lot of people would dislike what I wear—I go for comfort over fashion since I have kids and work outdoors. I have a super long torso and short legs so high waisted pants are great and usually fit under my belly button. I love wide leg linen pants because it’s the best style for optimal airflow in hot humid weather. I wear ugly barefoot/minimalist shoes and I love them. I can walk miles and my feet never hurt or blister.

I hate the ghetto Latina mom fashion. The padded ribbed bodysuits, the nude colored athletic wear, the extra long weave that goes down to her ankles, the pit vipers. I don't know where this fashion came from, but I see it everywhere now. I moved to a new area with a higher concentration of Venezuelans so I don't know if it came from them, but it's such a bad look, not to mention the women themselves act like they are not all there.

I know the current "y2k" fashion is fake and gay (no one dressed like that back then) but goddamn am I happy to see mid 2010s - 2020 fashion go away.

No more high waisted everything. Finally I can get a pair of pants that dont button under my tits. No more ultra skinny jeans/pants, I can wear nice comfortable baggier pants even to work. I love an effortless crop top and cute baggy jeans look for everyday casual wear. All biege influencer inspired wear is in the trash finally. The only people I see still wearing long brown cardigans and riding boots live in Utah.

But we need to stop somewhere. Just openly let the girls know a peplum top is hideous. Business casual for a house party/club is hideous. Please no more of this. And we dont need another round of le quirky headbands and owl necklaces either

I second this. What I’m most happy about is the return of 100% cotton pants/jeans. I may or may not be an autist with sensory issues, but I CANNOT STAND the sticky rubberband-on-the-skin feeling of those 5% spandex “stretch” jeans 🤢

This brand in particular is pure unfiltered slop:

Here's some prime examples:

I'm gonna have to sperg out a little here, because this is in genuinely horrible taste, imo. Not only is it making light of something that damages people for life for the sake of being wokedgy, it's effectively displaying the same logic underlying the infamously misogynistic 'rape revenge' trope ("I'm going to kill your rapist, with zero consideration for the fact that doing so will not only fail to address the damage they have already done, but most likely worsen your trauma significantly, because I care more about feeling morally righteous and self-justified and than I do you as a person").

Whatever makes you feel hekkin valids, my little theyfab... *sigh*

At least this one doesn't attempt to maintain any pretense of not being a drugged out slut, I guess...?

So cute and quirky uguuu!
Almost certainly worn exclusively by jobless BPD Sanrio girls who are completely reliant to their TOTALLY LEGITIMATE, MEDICAL, AND NECESSARY prescription pot.

Because nothing screams autism more than wearing uncomfortable skin tight clothes to an event with deafening electronic music, a hundred or so twenty-something sex pests under an array of influences, and all manner of lasers and lights designed to rape your eyes, right, my fellow Neurospicies...?

Oh, to be a mentally ill, unemployed xe/xir contributing nothing to society, whose only concern is whether my dealer is interested in joining my queer marxist polycule comprised entirely of amateur DJs... Unfortunately, however, I'm an adult woman with a life. Sad!

I'll say this for those shitty barrel leg jeans: they look easy to turn into normal jeans, just unpick the dart in the knees and remove as much fabric as it takes to make them comfortable. I'm kind of looking forward to them all going on sale so I can grab some to fix.

You just know it's going to be worn by millennials who wore "normal people scare me" t-shirts in the 2000s and never grew out of it. Millennials are approaching middle age now, we're such an infantilised generation though.

Remember when they were peak indie/tumblr girl crowd pleasers? Been years since I've been to one but I was shockeddd it was all broccoli head jogger wear. I'm never associating myself with anything Zara (Inditex treat their employees like absolute trash, never ever work for them)

Y2K refuses to go away
Every kpop girlie's been pushing this since forever and I'm absolutely done with it

Most of them are aggressively cringe but this one got a sensible chuckle out of me.

You absolutely have a point in that some of them are honestly not THAT bad. I'm actually a huge fan of slogan tees myself... But even then, the issue stands with the fact that you can just tell these are mediocre quality mass printed pieces.

Actually, to contrast for a moment, here's an example from another pseudo Y2K brand, called Self Fixated:

1000008894.png

Not all of their pieces are my cup of tea, but I do actually have one of their raglans (not this one, a different print), and it's one of my favourite go-to shirts.

Honestly, I think Self Fixated arguably has some things in common with Cherrykitten: slogan designs, targeting a specific brand of zoomer girl, feminist undertones, shirts designed to emphasize the body.

HOWEVER, I think the differences between the two are key: versatile pieces, graphics that don't rely on shock value to be eye-catching, high quality printing, fits that are flattering by virtue of the clothing pattern designs rather than just being super revealing/skin tight, and the designs are made with the entire piece in mind, not just a graphic slapped onto a range of pre-existing base options.

Of course, I'm not a fashion expert, and it's entirely possible I'm just biased LMAO. But what is KF for if not to be mad On the internet?

Also, RIP Claire's indeed. Minute of silence, kiwettes.

With all the Y2K stuff coming back, I lowkey hope that leggings under skirts make a comeback. All the fun of a skirt without my legs getting chilly and they don’t snag like tights do so I can wear them more than twice. That and more drop waist dresses.
