I'm seeing three main camps.

The neckbeards: REEEEE-ing about the Dr having a vagoo this time around. None of their reasons male sense, since regeneration can go basically any direction in terms of sex and ethnicity. Usually late 30s.

The younguns: REEEEE-ing about the neckbeards REEEE-ing. Most of them are pointing out that the Dr could have turned into a girl or black or purple or whatever at literally any time based on the whim of the writers. Generating salt from the neckbeard salt.

Oldfags: Salty about the show not being "real" anymore. Mostly outside the shenanigans of the previous two groups, but occasionally interject to clarify lore and stuff.

But yeah, I feel like Japan might have more success with Dr Who since they tend to go outside the box compared to western TV.

I love how people on Twitter are going "little girls have someone to look up to now in TV! This is important!" I highly doubt little kids give a shit who the Doctor is regardless of gender.
 
If today's Whovian shit-flinging wasn't enough, just imagine the outrage when the Doctor will turn back into a guy after a few seasons.

...unless the BBC invites some genderfluid non-binary thingamajig to be the 14th Doctor. It's also a possibility.
 
Feminists coming out of the woods, celebrating that the main character of a long-running series they haven't watched so far is now a woman. Nothing against Jodie Whittaker, Dr. Who was always full of surprises.
Plus, there sure will be a 14th doctor one day so everyone can have their taste of salt. Unless the fanbase boycotts a female Dr. Who and kills off the entire series, which is unlikely to happen.
 
So the new Doctor is a woman?

Eh, nothing in the show lore says it can't happen, and if she does a competent job, well and good. I just hope she winds up pissing off the SJWs by being rather "normal" (by their standards) while offending the "Dr Who can't be a woman" types at the same time.
