This has exploded in the last couple of days. I'll try to TLDR as best as I can:

Devs behind Friday the 13th have instituted new rules regarding banning. This is not in the game's TOS but only on social media and the game's website. One way to get banned is by saying "offensive" things which could be anything. A guy gets banned after calling team killers who were working with Jason "cunts" and the griefers claimed they knew the dev. Turns out this was true and the guy who cursed them out got banned but not the griefers... Even though griefing is a bannable offense.

The story got picked up. Getting a lot of attention here:
(original video has been privated)

Boogie2988 parodied the situation on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/157970285 (skip to 1:21:57)

And now the devs have been doxxed, received death threats, and their parents received death threats.

IMHO: I don't condone the doxxing and threats but I'm not surprised that it happened. The game has had a very rocky launch and the devs seem to be in their own little world. The game was released in a very buggy state, a lot of GAME BREAKING bugs/exploits remain, the devs reneged on dedicated servers on console, people are pissed over both the exclusivity of the Tom Savini-designed Jason and the fact that this particular Jason is tremendously overpowered (pay 2 win essentially), if you're unfortunate enough to own the game on console then that means you're still waiting for crucial patches to finally go through. It was a powder keg waiting to go off and this bit of hypocrisy lit the fuse.

It is a very good game but holy crap does it have problems.

I didn't know it had gotten this ridiculous, but I heard about the devs handing out bans for abusing bugs that they were apparently incapable of patching out and banned like 300 accounts in a day or something. I'm not super surprised this is the next step.

The entire steam ecosystem deserves a thread, not a week goes by without some event causing massive levels of salt, autism and entitlement.

There was a small group who basically spammed the same "na na na I can't hear you" arguments for almost a full year.

The sheer paranoia is pretty lulzy, have an opposing view? "You're a dev using an alternate account REEEE!"

And developers are as bad as the users, thing get worse when they pick moderators who are nothing more than fanboys with a banhammer.

The Friday the 13th situation doesn't surprise me.

All you had to do to avoid this turning into a fucking autism-storm was to just enforce your own fucking rules.

So of course they fuck up with the force of a nuclear device.

Seriously, banning someone over using the word "Cunt"? I've heard people shout worse derogatory terms over online games before without getting banned.

of all franchises to have cunts on control, Friday the 13th. One of the horror classics that pushed boundaries and made fun of suburban cleaness. What an embarassement

If you check his profile, that user reported the game and the dev and asked for a refund. There was no response.

He also has a disclaimer on his profile against doxxing and harassment despite being the most directly fucked over.

"Offensive Language" gets a warning if it's a first offense, at most. In games like this, if I was the one handing out bans, swears would get a pass because it's Friday the goddamn 13th. Griefing is an auto ban, because there's nothing worse in a co-op game (even if there is the element of PvP, the survivors are supposed to work together) then a traitor.

Fuck's sake, this isn't hard. Quit being retarded!

Good news for DSP. Maybe he can get his detractors banned for talking shit about Panda.

From what I heard, you can't play the game anyway because the devs choose to hook up a dead tamagotchi as their server, pretty much Jasoning your chances of finding a game as-is.

Might be more effective to go back to Dead by Daylight or IRL serial killing.
