Almost everything is sourced from China currently. If Chinese sourcing becomes an impossibility or prohibitively expensive then reshoring starts to look a whole lot more attractive. Ideally that means more jobs for Americans, and more things being made in America makes us more resilient as a country. It's basically an alternative way to achieve the goals of the tariffs while the tariffs are on hold (though I think China's are still mostly in place), with the secondary effect of hopefully getting Europe to realize that importing everything from China isn't ideal for them either ()
