2) I'm not well versed in the layout of a Gerald R Ford carrier, but a laundry fire breaking out and being near crew compartments makes sense.

If the Navy were trying to claim a laundry fire blew up a flight deck, disabled an engine, took out the command bridge, etc. then yeah it would sound sus.
But unless we see more proof otherwise the Navy's explanation sounds more plausible than anything else.
