Spoke to source about this, revising it to probably true. Theory is small ground level drones attacking.

What exactly could they hit near the strait?

I imagine they want to set up for minesweepers, but I don’t know how they could safely go about it at this point in time.

1) Enemy air bases and anti-aircraft installations, to allow frequent and accurate combat sorties (this is pretty much already done)
2) radar vehicles & installations that can guide anti-ship missiles (this allows USN ships to move closer to the AO
3) ports, docks, boat launching infrastructure, anything that the Iranians use to actually get boats and USVs in the water
4) remaining navy and IRGCN vessels, crews and USV launch teams

I also imagine with Iran's navy taking a heavy hit in the first few nights, that the IRGCN with their smaller, spammier boat fleet will start bearing the brunt of USAF & USN offensive strikes.

And the 2nd in command of Al-Qaeda (al-Zawahiri) only was killed recently in 2022 after we left because he assumed it was ok to return from hiding in Pakistan just to be droned in Kabul.
