MEXICO CITY — The Mexican army killed the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho,” in an operation Sunday, a federal official said.
The official, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said it happened during a military operation in the western state of Jalisco.

It followed several hours of roadblocks with burning vehicles in Jalisco and other states. Such tactics are commonly used by the cartels to block military operations.

The U.S. State Department had offered a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to the arrest of El Mencho.
In February, the Trump administration designated the cartel as a foreign terrorist organization.

These mexican cartels really stand on business as compared to the nignogs we have in the US who just put memorials on shirts and then shoot a random 14 year old in a gas station. I wonder if Mexico even had a plan post-operation for what to do as it is always inevitable when they take action against cartels that widespread violence will occur in retaliation since MX can never seem to contain cartels after they piss them off. I quite honestly dont follow the situation with cartels but the mexican army seems like they do the arab playbook where they do an operation without thinking about long term consequences then get squad wiped

Time was, cartels would flip out and go on a murder spree just to show the Mexican government who was boss after something like this.

Right now, they know that the only reason they haven't been slaughtered by US army rangers is because the Mexican government hasn't said "okay" yet.
I wish they would say "okay" and let us start fixing this mess. Mexicans are by and large pretty awesome and deserve a lot better from their government.

Kill them too then. Just keep killing them until there are none left. Even the Mexican army has the guns and the manpower, just not the will.

Bukele lead the way, Mexico only need follow.
I don't want to be that person but Bukele is also in the business and is buddy-buddy with chepe diablo, who basically runs the only cartel in ES that many people are still afraid of openly criticizing. The US needs to bomb the entire south at this point tbh.

All governments are corrupt, especially Mexican ones. This means your choice is “corrupt government with gang hoodlums running free, terrorizing everyone”, or “corrupt government where most gang hoodlums are dead or locked in CECOT.”

I know which I prefer.

Personally, I rather see the entire region get nuked at this point. *sigh*

Ralphamale status? Is he safe in his fortress xanax? I'm only partially joking but he would be such an easy target. Fat American who can't run away.

Sunk-cost fallacy. Most cartel leaders are career criminals who started out as goons of the previous cartel boss and are now so deep into this world that there’s no turning back. Surrendering themselves to the cops and trying to abandon this "lifestyle" will just result in them or their family members getting killed by the other cartel leaders they're in conflict with
it's not even a fallacy, because in this case it's 100% real and correct.
give up your power and try to live as a civilian? you'll be looking over your shoulder for the rest of your life because the dozens of guys who hold a grudge against you will still want to take you out, and the cops still have you on their wanted list too.
surrender to the cops? you'll spend the rest of your life in prison.

when you're in organized crime for that long, you're past the point of no return. live by the sword, die by the sword, there is no other way out.

But they do enjoy it. Pablo Escobar lived in luxury for many years, he even had a personal zoo at his house. Most cartel leaders are shielded away from the routine violence of the cartel, often protected by their government. There are many cases like that
Didn't Pablo also bend the Colombian government backwards and fucked it raw with car bombs, gunning down cops and judges, and blowing a plane filled with civilians just to kill one guy? I could imagine the government might be a little exhausted after that.

Of course, that didn't exempt them from letting things get to that point.

Anyway....this is all incredibly sad. Not that the fried bean got popped, fuck him and all cartel fuckers. But that this resulted in mass violence to...do what exactly? Push the government until the US kicks the door down?

Feels like an endless cycle of violence where innocent people get caught in the middle, then the violence slows down and things go back to normal beheadings before the next big dick muchacho gets gunned down, and we're back to El Desert Storm.

Mexico as a failed state when?
