All the national pizza chains got massive subsidies in the 90s because the government was trying to deal with the consequences of subsidizing dairy overproduction. To keep dairy production up the government buys basically 100% of overproduction. Rather than having dairy farmers keep their production static as demand decreased they scaled up because the fed promised to buy the overflow. Basically the modern day equivalent of the British giving Indians a bounty for cobra heads leading to the Indians breeding cobras en masse. But you can't just turn off the money tap anymore, so that's why the cheese caves exist, that's why the amount of cheese on pizzas doubled in the 90s, that's why "Got milk?" was a thing, ever notice how there wasn't a brand attached to that advertising campaign despite the massive spending that obviously went into it?
Dairy is actual food though. Better than corn and soy.
