It's interesting seeing all these "punch a nazi" folk in full force since most of the people they claim they should punch aren't even nazis. Even when they do allegedly punch one, it's always the people who they know won't fight back. Or worse, if said "Nazi"s packing heat, they're gonna be six feet under
There aren't any Nazis. Not in any position of power, authority, societal leadership, or cultural dominance, at any rate. The Obama administration-era FBI famously went on a desperate witch hunt to find and enumerate as many living, breathing, card-carrying Nazis as they possibly could, "just in case," to have a scapegoat handy to blame terrorism on. Trouble is, they couldn't find more than about 3k, even when they stretched their definition of "Nazi."
This means two things. First, the Nazi "philosophy" is well and truly dead. For all the trolling and edgy jokes people throw out there, there are fewer living people "burning a candle for Hitler" today than there are actual KKK members (though not by much, ironically -- they couldn't find many of those left either). There is zero possibility -- literally none -- of Nazism to return in any fashion. It can't. Between historical knowledge (accurate and otherwise) of its performance and outcomes and mankind's collective response to it (including indirectly leading to the only two wartime nuclear detonations ever in humanity's history), it will never return.
Visible hatred of Nazism is exclusively performative for the approval of others in the same peer group. It serves no other purpose. Which leads to the second end-result of the current Nazi count: there is no possibility of ever being called upon to physically fight actual Nazis ever again. The handful who exist do not fight, do not openly associate, do not attend protests, do not participate in politics and are not "active" in any interesting way. They collect Nazi memorabilia, hate Jews privately, and wait to die.
Because of this, hating Nazis is a "free action." Bonus points for nothing. There are no actual Nazis available to punch (they choose not to make themselves available for punching). There are people who LARP as Nazis, exclusively to countersignal the anti-Nazi performative wankers, in hopes of gaining the approval of
their peer group.
So it leads to two outcomes: most people talk about punching Nazis because they know it's safe to do so. They'll never be confronted with an actual Nazi, and will never be expected to punch one (since they don't really exist). The other are the people who just want to go punch people regardless, and find calling their targets "Nazis" a convenient way to justify it. Remember, "they don't really want to kill you because they think you're Nazis, they hate you for other reasons and just call you Nazis so they can kill you."
