I had reflexively thought this too, but then I thought about it and no null did nothing wrong here. If he hadn't done the interview and let them speak unchallenged, they would not have been able to so thoroughly bury themselves as they have. There seem to have not really been anyone else willing to interview them like this so no need to be hostile and push them away. If that had happened we may not have learned all this.
