There is actually a really good chance he came into contact with the Coxsackie virus at urgent care or the hospital. It was the Coxsackie B1 viral infection that really screwed him far more than the pneumonia, which was a slow boil.

Having known someone who had a very similar situation that was exacerbated by poor lifestyle choices... You can hypothesize about where someone picked up a virus 24/7 but the reality is that millions and even billions of people carry viruses like COVID, the common cold, the flu, swine flu etc with absolutely zero side effects or at most they get minorly sick for a day or two.

You could be walking in the mall or on a plane or on a bus or doing gay wrestling. It's the fact their lifestyle fucked up their body so much that they had so much impact from it when no one else usually does.

I mention this because in this instance saying the urgent care is likely where he caught it is being charitable and almost giving an excuse when there really isn't one.

And yes some people catch these viruses and have great health and die from them and it sucks but as a human you will come into contact with this shit all day, every day for the rest of your life - so what you're saying about your health being the most important thing is absolutely true.

If it wasn't drug use specifically then he could've been a chain-smoking alcoholic and it might've had the same impact. This kind of situation is a good reminder of why "general health" is so important and it's not necessarily the minor impacts of a vice killing you straight away, but they can weaken your body and immune system enough to cause tons of other problems.

Jeet doctors or not he delayed and avoided going to the doctor extensively so you can't exactly blame the medical system for not catching some obscure virus when he didn't take this shit seriously despite being almost dead months ago.
I don't think urgent care will generally diagnose complex issues like these anyway, and expecting it to happen on two visits is ludicrous.

I agree. I only mention the potential of where he might have gotten it since the incubation period is short and exposure to Coxsackie B1 as a adult is unusual. As such, a nosocomial exposure is likely. It isn't meant to provide an excuse for what happened. In fact, if he did get it at one of those two locations, if he had maintained his health properly, he wouldn't have needed to be in either place, so it makes it much more so a direct result of his actions (or inactions, as it may be) than a random encounter.
