I'd guess that the existing fleet of aircraft the V-280 is intended to replace hasn't reached their end of operational life yet. Early procurement of the V-280 will result in retiring still usable aircraft, although it's possible they could be sold or given away.

They aren't killing the black hawk all the way. It'll supplement. It's a wide bird and a black hawk can still fit in places that the V280 cant
