People throw around the term "international law" like it actually means anything. It's a made up term used by libs and leftists that actually think that they can all gang together for criminal prosecutions of foreign individuals.
There's no legislature, no police force, no compulsory courts, and no enforcement mechanism that applies equally to states. It's a set of norms and aggreements that only matter when it suits the interest of a specific power that chooses to follow them. Like a gentlemans agreement.
States are always soverign actors. They are never private citizens. The entire systems relies on consent and power. When this so called "international law" conflicts with national security or strategic interests the entire idea of "international law" goes out the window and ignored, it's like pissing in the wind.
It's perfectly okay to argue as to if something is wise or unwise policy, but calling it "illegal under international law" is making it a moral objection dressed up as legal language.
If it can't be enforced against unwilling states then it isn't law. It's fucking mental retardation.

It very much depends where you are. It isn't Africa where everything is completely fucked. It's just mostly fucked. Some places are livable, other places are hell, and it really depends on who is in charge. If you have a strong man as el presidentie, you're probably going to make it in the jungle.
