Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed by their son, Nick, multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE.

On Sunday, Dec. 14, at about 3:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) was called to a home to provide medical aid, the LAFD told PEOPLE. Upon arrival, they found a man, 78, and a woman, 68, dead. Sources confirm the victims were Rob and Michele.

Rob is a director, producer and actor whose career includes some of Hollywood’s most beloved films — from his 1984 directorial debut, This Is Spinal Tap, to Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992).

He first became famous for his role as Mike on the Norman Lear TV sitcom All in the Family.

Rob was born in the Bronx, N.Y., in 1947. His father was legendary comedian Carl Reiner and his mother was actress and singer Estelle Lebost.

Rob and Michele met when Rob directed When Harry Met Sally, and the couple married in 1989 before having three children.

Previously, Rob was married to the late Penny Marshall, who died in 2018 at age 75 of complications from diabetes.

In a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Nick spoke about his years-long struggle with drug addiction, which began in his early teens and eventually left him living on the streets. He said he cycled in and out of rehab beginning around age 15, but as his addiction escalated, he drifted farther from home and spent significant stretches homeless in multiple states.

Nick told PEOPLE that the chaotic period of addiction — including nights and sometimes weeks sleeping outside — later became the basis for the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he co-wrote.

“Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family," Nick told PEOPLE at the time.

An aerial view of a Brentwood home where paramedics and police responded Sunday afternoon after reports that 2 individuals were found dead inside.

Two people were found dead Sunday afternoon inside a Brentwood home owned by director and actor Rob Reiner, multiple law enforcement sources told NBCLA.

The LA Fire Department said a man and a woman were found deceased inside, approximately 78 and 68 years old.

LAPD Robbery Homicide Division detectives were assigned to the case. Several other LAPD officials said they were aware of the investigation but could not share any information.

There is a large police presence at the home Sunday evening.

LAFD paramedics were called to the home on Chadbourne Avenue around 3:30 p.m.

Within a few minutes, LAPD officers were dispatched to the home for a report of an, "ambulance death investigation," which is LAPD terminology when officers are called by firefighters to the discovery of a death.

Neighbors said Reiner and his wife live in the home, and property records indicate they own the home.

Well he did make good movies. And his movies have nothing to to do with the shit he spewed about politics and whatnot?

God forbid we celebrate the Man on his work and not his words.

Nah, man, clearly we should never watch any film ever again because all the creators are buttheads who give opinions online. That goes for television too.

I guess we're just left with books and YouTube now. Never enjoy anything ever again. :D

Wait, Stephen King gives his opinion, so no reading.

Wait, so do YouTubers.

Staring at the wall it is.

It totally rules just to murder people if you don't like their political opinions. There's no point in just talking. You have to murder them. Amazing how many stupid people actually have this opinion.

Apparently Hader was talking to another celebrity, Nick Reiner tried to butt into it, and Hader informed him "Look, buddy, this is an A - B conversation, so C your way out of it" and Reiner lost his shit. We might hear more about it in the coming days; the party was full of Hollywood pedophiles, and they protect their own, so maybe not.
Apparently Hader didn’t get the memo that everyone was supposed to walk on eggshells around Reiner’s demented son.

I feel bad for Hader but I’m sure everyone at the party felt the same way.

I get the Reiners didn’t want to leave him home alone, but they should have just not gone or only one attended. Dragging druggie schizo 6’3 son they didn’t even trust alone for 2 hours unsupervised to a swanky celebrity party was stupid.

It shows some hubris on the Reiner’s part that they felt this was ok to do. Hey, let’s make a bunch of industry people deal with our psycho son for a few hours. Share the joy!

OTOH it does sound like Rob tried to reign in Nick’s behavior and that’s when it all popped off.

I wonder if the concerns about not leaving him alone at the house were mostly about him getting his hands on drugs. Like were they attempting some enforced sobriety shit and preventing him from meeting up with his dealers or getting access to money? They knew if left alone for a few hours he’d be on a meth binge upon their return.

Apparently they were trying to get him to take his psychiatric meds AND not do street drugs, which was a recipe for disaster.

Nick has apparently retained a big wig lawyer, the one who defended Karen Reed and Kevin Spacey. Im sure the lawyer did it for the PR, but it will be interesting to see if he stays on board. The irony is he will need money from his parents estate to pay an attorney. I’d bet the Reiners made very careful provisions about Nick in their will because they sure as fuck weren’t going to hand him a pile of money no strings attached. Probably planned a trust to oversee and distribute any funds to keep him off skidrow and under supervision. Will be interesting to see if he can use the trust to pay his defense attorneys.

Because people feel bad that someone was murdered so brutally. I don't know why that's hard to understand.
This doesn't really work when for example the only thing you said about Charlie Kirk being murdered was being suspicious of his widow's grieving process. You then brought up Kirk's death in attempt to show how un-Christian-like the people who don't care about Reiner's death are. Enough with this fake bullshit, "kumbaya I care about every person murdered."

Diner with Reiner

It sounds like Rob produced the movie - autobiography- Being Charlie -for/with Nick and then had the kid say he was clean for the press junket - when he admittedly was not. That will fuck up recovery and build resentment.
I hate to judge a parent from the sidelines but things were obviously not kosher in that household. - rate me dumb I can’t turn the italics off

Harvey Weinstein produced many great movies such as Pulp Fiction, The English Patient (Oscar winner) Good Will Hunting (Oscar winner) Inglorious Basterds, Lord of the Rings (all 4 movies), and Scream, and without his contribution, these movies never would have been made. My enjoyment of most of these movies doesn't excuse his behavior in life, nor does it require me to make a mealy-mouthed expression of sympathy when he finally does the world a favor and drops fucking dead. The same goes for Bill Cosby.

You can enjoy the product while despising the artist. It also bears noting that neither Reiner, Weinstein, or Cosby created their work in a vacuum, so the success of these works owes a lot to a whole cast of other characters that also contributed, particularly the writers and actors. If you can't enjoy Fat Albert any more because Cosby turned out to be a shitlord, I guess that's a "you" problem.
