Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed by their son, Nick, multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE.

On Sunday, Dec. 14, at about 3:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) was called to a home to provide medical aid, the LAFD told PEOPLE. Upon arrival, they found a man, 78, and a woman, 68, dead. Sources confirm the victims were Rob and Michele.

Rob is a director, producer and actor whose career includes some of Hollywood’s most beloved films — from his 1984 directorial debut, This Is Spinal Tap, to Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992).

He first became famous for his role as Mike on the Norman Lear TV sitcom All in the Family.

Rob was born in the Bronx, N.Y., in 1947. His father was legendary comedian Carl Reiner and his mother was actress and singer Estelle Lebost.

Rob and Michele met when Rob directed When Harry Met Sally, and the couple married in 1989 before having three children.

Previously, Rob was married to the late Penny Marshall, who died in 2018 at age 75 of complications from diabetes.

In a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Nick spoke about his years-long struggle with drug addiction, which began in his early teens and eventually left him living on the streets. He said he cycled in and out of rehab beginning around age 15, but as his addiction escalated, he drifted farther from home and spent significant stretches homeless in multiple states.

Nick told PEOPLE that the chaotic period of addiction — including nights and sometimes weeks sleeping outside — later became the basis for the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he co-wrote.

“Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family," Nick told PEOPLE at the time.

An aerial view of a Brentwood home where paramedics and police responded Sunday afternoon after reports that 2 individuals were found dead inside.

Two people were found dead Sunday afternoon inside a Brentwood home owned by director and actor Rob Reiner, multiple law enforcement sources told NBCLA.

The LA Fire Department said a man and a woman were found deceased inside, approximately 78 and 68 years old.

LAPD Robbery Homicide Division detectives were assigned to the case. Several other LAPD officials said they were aware of the investigation but could not share any information.

There is a large police presence at the home Sunday evening.

LAFD paramedics were called to the home on Chadbourne Avenue around 3:30 p.m.

Within a few minutes, LAPD officers were dispatched to the home for a report of an, "ambulance death investigation," which is LAPD terminology when officers are called by firefighters to the discovery of a death.

Neighbors said Reiner and his wife live in the home, and property records indicate they own the home.

Is this a joke? My parents hold some views I think are abhorrent but I'll never wish any harm on them. The reverse is true too
Bro has not been paying attention to the political situation

Remember kids, Gravedancing is not cool, and real adults are measured in their (public) speech

My crazy leftwing sister is saying Reiner was making a movie about Putin and DJT. She thinks it was a hitjob and Reiners son is taking the fall lmao
There was also other theories who popped up about Reiner's death.

As investigators work, the case has sparked intense online conjecture. One law enforcement source familiar with the discussion around the deaths said: "There is wild speculation out there, including talk of a Charles Manson family-style scenario, but right now that is just speculation and not grounded in confirmed evidence."

Another industry insider echoed the comparison, saying: "People are drawing parallels to the late 1960s because of the brutality and the family proximity, but those comparisons can easily run ahead of the facts."

I don't know much about mental hospitals OR rehab facilities but don't they operate pretty similarly? I was under the impression that it's mostly voluntary unless it's court ordered and they pretty much just keep you there until you decide to leave or they consider you to be fine and just throw you back out on the curb. Unless you're paying a bunch of money for the good treatment. Seems to me like the main difference boils down to where one is for those who need to be away from drugs and the other is for people who need to be on them.

In this scenario, the only difference I see between mental hospitals and prisons is that one has more violent retards than the other one does.

Not really. I think a rehab facility is basically like 'You're on drugs. What can we do to get you off drugs?' They're probably not going to give you anti-psychotics. If you're schizophrenic and you abuse drugs to get rid of the demons in your head or whatever, most drug rehabilitation programs are probably not equipped to deal with all of that

I've had dealing with mental institutes due to family members. Functionally there is no rral diffrence between rehab and mental institutes. Typically the drug addicts and the mental cases get put in the same place and have rooms litteraly next to each other, and sometimes share rooms. There's a variety of reasons for this.

One of the biggest is JFK decided to fuck America in the name of his sister back in the day. Long story short he took bad advice from advisors and try to better federalize and then reduce mental hospitals. signed the bill for it like the same week he was assasinated. Ronnie regan catches alot of the flak for it because the after effects of the bill hit really hard in the 70s, but no one wanted to point it out under Carter who was, kind of a massive piece of shit and might honestly been kinda evil. Had connections to Jonestown. So they waited till Regan in the 80s

Anyway back on track. the other less nefarious reasons is because drug abuse and mental illness go together alot of times. Sometimes it's because lengthy periods of drug abuse can cause things like paranoia, or if you start off mentally ill you tend to make poor life choices and can pretty easily fall into drug abuse. Regardless, since alot of patients have these same two issues, it just kind of works out somewhat easier to house the two together. Esspecially since you dont ussually end up there until this has started to disrupt your day to day life. And at that point it means this is a long term issue. The biggest problem with the modern model is that they aren't set up to be long term care facilities for people that had the worst conditions. They're meant to get you in, get you stable, and if you have a mental illness then get you medicated till you can live on your own. Fine for someone with a bad case of depression, horrible idea for someone with an extreme case of schitzophrenia.

The only facilities I'm aware of where there is a big diffrence are going to be the high price places.

What’s interesting to me is that people just stopped giving a shit about his movies after The Bucket List. He couldn’t even drum up interest for Spinal Tap 2.

I mean, to be fair I feel like most people have stopped giving a shit about movies in general. They could announce free blow jobs with the purchase of every movie ticket to the next star wars and you would be lucky if the theater could sell a quarter of the seats.

You think anyone has the stomach for a sequel to a 40 year old movie made by a guy with all the symptoms of the most disconnected people of hollywood?

Would military school would have kept him in line? Or would it have made him worse?
It's not the first time I've seen kids get sent there for being troubled.
It wouldn't.
My post will be considered power level but I dont care.
I have a narcissist brother and I can tell you for a fact that they can not change.
It's not just a set of ideas in their heads that they can be reasoned out from.
Narcissism is a default state of their very existence that is hardwelded into their psyche and consciousness.
It is the very core of their very being.
You can not change a narcissist anymore than you can change a man into a woman.
At best, they can emulate behaviour but their true nature will always come to surface.
They will either say something deeply concerning that they will try to play off as a joke or drop the act as soon as anything that has power over them gets out of sight.
My brother is exactly that kind of person.
He could control himself in front of my father, but the look on his face clearly showed he was only forcing out civilized behaviour.
He been to military because 2 decades ago compulsory military service in Poland was still a thing and he was one of last few generations who got caught in it.
As soon as he didn't had a drill sergeant pushing his shit in, he went back to being abusive to the entire family.
And dont even think bad things that happen to him would make him change and reconsider. Remember, it's hard-welded into his very psyche.
He insisted on living in London as blue collar because he thought he was above market forces and after 5 years he had nothing to show for it.
He got kicked out of our home by dad when he couldn't behave himself.
He got kicked out of our home by mom after he kicked her out first after she divorced with dad. Tried to act like the new man of the house.
It's a bloody good thing I was in UK when that happened because if I were left alone with him, he'd probably kill me in my sleep like this thread's subject.
He still acts like a main character and thinks the world owes him favours.
Once a narc, always a narc.
Every narc is an abusive cancer and if you're forced to live with one then you're better off disowning yourself and start over as an orphan.
They will try to weaponize your sense of pride by emphasising what kind of sissy loser you are from running away when you try to leave but they do so only to reel you back in in order to continue mistreating you.

have a narcissist brother
This is assuming the son is a narc, which we don't know if he is. I'm not making excuses for him, but Hollywood is full of fake people full of themselves, narcisists fit right in. It would be easy to do drugs in that environment just to feel something that seems genuine. When he tried to get sober his dad makes a movie about what a good father he is. I don't think Rob's TDS is based in any form of genuine political sentiment either, he seemed to just virtue signal a lot to his own crowd.
If the son had gotten out of the toxic environment that is Hollywood things may have turned out better. Or not, but there are a lot of addicts that don't kill their families. There is something more behind this than drugs, but it is not necessarily a personality disorder.

I liked The Princess Bride too, but I'm not going to discount that the guy was a piece of shit just because he made a movie I liked. Pieces of shit make great art sometimes. Roman Polanski comes to mind. So does R Kelly (Aaliyah's Age Ain't Nothing But A Number is a fucking banger even though it's R Kelly forcing his fucking grooming victim to sing about how much she loves him)
To best of my knowledge Rob Reiner didn't fuck kids.

James Woods Tears Up Over ‘Infuriating’ Remarks About ‘Patriot’ Rob Reiner: ‘Because You Disagree With People, Doesn’t Mean You Have to Hate People’

IMG_7393.webp
James Woods, who has been vocally pro-Donald Trump, is speaking out against the “distasteful” commentsmade about Rob Reiner.

Woods, who starred in Reiner’s “Ghosts of Mississippi” in 1996, opened up about his late friend during an appearance on Fox News on Monday night, revealing that he was at a low point and landing that job turned it around.

“Rob literally saved my career and really put me back on track in a way that was so important and rewarding in my life. He really fought for me when a studio didn’t want me in a movie,” Woods said. “I went from really being basically out of a job to getting an Academy Award nomination, and I give all the credit to Rob.”

Getting choked up multiple times during the interview with Jesse Watters, Woods explained that friends would often ask him how he could be friends with the director, despite their opposing political views; Reiner was a liberal activist, while Woods has been outspoken about supporting Trump.

“I judge people by how they treat me, and Rob Reiner was a Godsend in my life. We got along great, we loved each other… He was always on my side,” Woods said. “When people would say to me, ‘What do you think of his politics?’ I would say, ‘I think Rob Reiner is a great patriot. Do I agree on many of his ideas on how that patriotism should be enacted, to celebrate the America that we both love? No. He doesn’t agree with me either, but he also respects my patriotism. We had a different path to the same destination, which was a country we both love.”

He added, “Because you disagree with people doesn’t mean that you have to hate people.”

After noting that Reiner was “a real thinker” and “a lot of people just don’t think anymore,” Woods brought up how Reiner spoke about Charlie Kirk after he was assassinated in September. (In his last interview, Reiner was asked about Kirk’s death, and he called it “horrible,” adding, “I don’t care what your political beliefs are. That’s not acceptable. That’s not a solution to solving problems.”)

“I knew Charlie Kirk, I supported him… people said some such horrible things, and Rob did not,” Woods said on Monday night. “When people say horrible things about Rob right now, I find it, quite frankly, infuriating and distasteful. Did I agree with his politics? I did not. Did I love him as I friend, as an artist, as an icon of Hollywood, and as a patriot? I most certainly did, and I am just absolutely devastated.”

Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, were murdered on Sunday, December 14, in their home in Brentwood, Calif. Following the deaths, Trump posted on TruthSocial that the director “passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”

In a press conference later that day, he added, “I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned. … I thought he was very bad for our country.”

Lol, the son didn't want his help. You can't help someone who doesn't want it.

They should have kicked him out and gotten a restraining order. The guy was bound to kill them.
Given the difficulty of involuntary commitment, this was literally their only choice. Restraining order, hire security, cut all contact. They were pursuing a conservatorship but that would have just continued the BS when he was a teen constantly running away from rehabs.

They should have dropped him off in downtown LA with $200 and said ciao.

This is assuming the son is a narc, which we don't know if he is. I'm not making excuses for him, but Hollywood is full of fake people full of
He may or may not have been but he certainly lacked any social finesse or ability to adjust his persona to fit in to the social fabric anywhere that helps narcs get through life.

I think several of us have listened to his interviews on Dopey now and he even when he’s just supposed to be telling druggie dirtbag stories he’s awful, awkward and boring. The hosts actually read emails from other listeners they find funny to carry the show along because this guy could not even tell an amusing story about drug use.

Imagine being Rob Reiner’s son and not even have the ability to tell an amusing story about drug use. It’s like he lacked the core super power of his lineage. His grandfather and father could be effortlessly funny talking about algebra.

Nick also had zero charisma and lived in LA. He was the ultimate black sheep.

He was only on that show thanks to “son of Rob Reiner who does drugs” and the hosts drool over his famous family but you could tell they were bending over backwards to try and get anything mildly amusing or relatable out of this creepy dude.

Apparently it's been reported that Nick would routinely storm into rooms and functions and demand attention by throwing violent tantrums. This wasn't the first time he openly fought in public with his parents.

Also TMZ has reported that Billy Crystal and his wife saw Rob and Michele's bodies. His daughter called them after she called the cops.

So there's another celebrity that could potentially be a character witness against Nick, along with all these celebrities supposedly at Conan O'Brien's holiday party that started this.
Bill Hader was at the party and allegedly told Nick to politely fuck off when he tried to wedge himself into a conversation.

So there’s yet another celeb witness.
