Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed by their son, Nick, multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE.

On Sunday, Dec. 14, at about 3:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) was called to a home to provide medical aid, the LAFD told PEOPLE. Upon arrival, they found a man, 78, and a woman, 68, dead. Sources confirm the victims were Rob and Michele.

Rob is a director, producer and actor whose career includes some of Hollywood’s most beloved films — from his 1984 directorial debut, This Is Spinal Tap, to Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992).

He first became famous for his role as Mike on the Norman Lear TV sitcom All in the Family.

Rob was born in the Bronx, N.Y., in 1947. His father was legendary comedian Carl Reiner and his mother was actress and singer Estelle Lebost.

Rob and Michele met when Rob directed When Harry Met Sally, and the couple married in 1989 before having three children.

Previously, Rob was married to the late Penny Marshall, who died in 2018 at age 75 of complications from diabetes.

In a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Nick spoke about his years-long struggle with drug addiction, which began in his early teens and eventually left him living on the streets. He said he cycled in and out of rehab beginning around age 15, but as his addiction escalated, he drifted farther from home and spent significant stretches homeless in multiple states.

Nick told PEOPLE that the chaotic period of addiction — including nights and sometimes weeks sleeping outside — later became the basis for the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he co-wrote.

“Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family," Nick told PEOPLE at the time.

An aerial view of a Brentwood home where paramedics and police responded Sunday afternoon after reports that 2 individuals were found dead inside.

Two people were found dead Sunday afternoon inside a Brentwood home owned by director and actor Rob Reiner, multiple law enforcement sources told NBCLA.

The LA Fire Department said a man and a woman were found deceased inside, approximately 78 and 68 years old.

LAPD Robbery Homicide Division detectives were assigned to the case. Several other LAPD officials said they were aware of the investigation but could not share any information.

There is a large police presence at the home Sunday evening.

LAFD paramedics were called to the home on Chadbourne Avenue around 3:30 p.m.

Within a few minutes, LAPD officers were dispatched to the home for a report of an, "ambulance death investigation," which is LAPD terminology when officers are called by firefighters to the discovery of a death.

Neighbors said Reiner and his wife live in the home, and property records indicate they own the home.

I wouldn't call the death of a random movie maker an "unfathomable national tragedy".
That was the repost, not Obama, no?

I didn't even know his name til recently.
That is unfortunate. He was a talented director, and All in the Family was as "important" as a half-hour sitcom (that you either saw when it aired or not until the next summer in re-runs) can be; it reflected and satirized a whole cultural and generational shift and clash at the time. Which, btw, was a time when there were 4 channels on TV, including PBS, and you still had to get up to change the channel; the only media in your home other than a single 26" color TV in the living room were LPs you had to stack on a stylus in the middle of the turntable to be able to listen to more than 6 songs in a row, or a radio; and you got your news at 6 pm, 11 pm, or the next morning - point being: something like a TV show or movie had the potential to be known by nearly everyone or have a kind of cultural impact, not just "sparked a fad/ made money/ people got rich or popular" - and anyone watching was watching at the exact same time, a broad commonality of experience we have less and less now.

So for a Rob Reiner (or a Ron Howard) to go from a young (in Ron's case, child and teen) actor on immensely popular and pivotal TV shows to being two of the biggest directors in Hollywood with even larger culturally impacting output as mature men has been pretty neat.

Tl; dr: it's kind of sad you (not you specifically, but anyone) barely know who someone who contributed a lot and on a large scale to broad common American culture for a very long time, and not long ago at all. He was a good director who made good movies that were pretty common reference points and a lot of people enjoyed.

Shit-talking Rob Reiner before the body's even gone cold is I ioso waay down on the list of voter priorities, it's not even?tuff9[[worth discussing in terms of electoral results.
Probably, but it is very sad that so many people aren't even embarrassed about their own base reactions - having no independent sense of conscience and decency but instead spitefully taking the lower and lower road - and calling it not only justified but somehow their deserved "revenge." Not just defending the race to the bottom, but reveling in it. And just like every other mania that has festered via the internet over the last decade or so, that craven, zero-sum, soul-corrupted thinking has done nothing but grow exponentially.

Too many people don't care about being good humans - just because it is good and right - anymore. (:_(

Has everybody taken stupid pills? Trump's tweet whether appropriate or not is 10000000000000000x classier than all the ding dong Kirk is dead blowback the libs tweeted. Also MTG has heelturned into a rather vocal Trump critic attentionseeker these past few months when Trump ended her career as a GOP attentionseeker so this is just true to form.
Trump is the President of the United States, you dumb ass migger.

After the way the Left treated Charlie Kirk and his family after he died, I'm beyond fucking done with pearl clutching and playing "Devil's Advocate" with literal devils in our midst. No amount of "being the bigger man" will ever be enough for these people, and they will DESTROY YOU if given the prime opportunity. I literally do not fucking care about Trump's response to Meathead's death. I'm more concerned with him keeping his promise of draining the swamp (which he's done an actual piss poor job of up until now).

bet the venn diagram of these two groups would be a circle. easier to LARP as conservative christian then to put effort to live those ideals, i suppose.
Most of th grave dancers call Christian “Christ cucks” for a reason buddy.
>hurr hurr durrr gravedance because he said something not nice about my orange paedophile daddy

I’m getting tired of the media outlets reporting Nick was “homeless” and “living on the streets” for years. What actually happened is he kept running away from expensive rehabs when he was a teen, that’s his “homeless” story. He’d eventually call dad and he’d be sent money, sent back to rehab or go home. He’d was a homeless by choice spoiled teenager until the novelty and funds ran out. He was never out in the cold dark world fending for himself. His entire life was spent in absurd luxury with a few months of choosing to bum around other rich addicts because he wanted to stay high.

Late, but I’m the same way.

I don’t care what anyone says. I’m not going to ruin myself just because other people have ruined themselves.
I admire that, and wish I could. This years been tougher on me than I thought maybe.
That is unfortunate.
If it makes you feel better I don't remember creators of works often. Even if I like them.
Princess bride was fun though

For me I guess I feel very, very embittered. I already had family disown me over politics, and that same family cackled like jackels when Kirk was shot. I know it's good and right to be merciful, I just can't help the feeling, especially since I felt kinda shook when Kirk was murdered, and my own family was effectively saying they wish that was me too, since I know I'm nowhere as nice as him.

I'm sure some feel its autistic, but I can't help but think of Joshua Graham with it. His anger is pretty similar. I Logically KNOW not to, but the feelings are fucking intense regardless.
I feel a bit similar to that but im still grappling with shit. The line "I want them to die in fear and pain", is a feeling I try greatly to suppress, but when I've seen others think the same for me, its difficult not to want to reflect it back. I'm trying though

Seriously. Let loose. I'm so comfortable with this kind of honesty.
Let loose of what? I don't read comics or watch superhero cartoons so I have no opinion on the guy.
His timeline indicates that he's a mainstream milquetoast shitlib with average centre-left libtard views. He DOES NOT deserve to get sliced to death because of that.
Just as Charlie Kirk didn't deserve to die over his mainstream milquetoast cuckservative with average centre-right cuckservative views.

please note, shitlibs do not get to pull the hypocrisy card
I suggest to have the shitlib Kirk gravedancers and the orange paedophile worshippers gravedancing Rob/wife to all be deported onto an island for some survival show where we see them getting mauled by animals, not in a special effects way.
It helps humanity.

and my own family was effectively saying they wish that was me too, since I know I'm nowhere as nice as him.
Is this a joke? My parents hold some views I think are abhorrent but I'll never wish any harm on them. The reverse is true too.
It sounds like you had a dysfunctional family instead of being "politics".

I’m not a grave dancer for anyone but killers and rapists. But you have to admit that libs cranked the temperature up with how much they celebrated Kirk’s death. They were literally dressing as Kirk with his neck wound and upvoting it on Reddit.

its not, though, note the "EFFECTIVELY". I KNOW for a damn fact im a worse man than kirk, I'm more bitter, more angry, less merciful, less patient, ect, but they said anyone who holds his beliefs (me) also deserves it.

Granted, this isn't explicitly TELLING me I deserve to die, but what the fuck am I SUPPOSED to think exactly??? IF HE deserves to die, the fuck that say about me?...

And yes they are radically dysfunctional, the ones who did that....really I already knew this, but...I didn't figure it was that bad. And I think it made that time a lot worse that I not only felt shook over the killing, but isolated.....very, very bad combination TBH.

I wonder if the kid was always fucked, or just something INSANE happened to him when young, I suspect its the second, but those are also eyes of occasionally people born seemingly without souls. But its obvious before his 20s he was very, very, very and PERMANENTLY fucked

I don't blame the guy, but to explain what I mean by that, its like "blaming" the rain when you had a forecast and umbrella, the rain will never be accountable, the rain will never change its behavior, the rain will never "learn its lesson" or feel bad for making you wet. So blaming it is no more than pointless ego shielding.

Its not a call for sympathy, but an admission that that person is BEYOND REPAIR, something rob refused to admit till it was too late.
The rumors rob passed him around to his buddies like a blow up doll, are mighty concerning. I hope they aren't true.
literally can't fathom the idea of doing that to one child and not the others. More likely in my mind that kind of thing would happen behind his back but... I dont know the depths of Hollywood.

Then again there is a percentage of people out there that simply unravel after their first hit. I wonder if simply just lost his mind to drugs and nobody wanted to admit it.

All the same it's a pretty horrific event and I hope something good can come of it for drug prevention... But it's California. Nobody fucking learns anything and problems are never solved.

Rob Reiner and wife helped fund and run: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Foundation_for_Equal_Rights

So they wanted to overthrow american democracy because they were faggot loving jews.
Grain of salt, but I heard he also funded Russiagate somehow?
