Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed by their son, Nick, multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE.

On Sunday, Dec. 14, at about 3:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) was called to a home to provide medical aid, the LAFD told PEOPLE. Upon arrival, they found a man, 78, and a woman, 68, dead. Sources confirm the victims were Rob and Michele.

Rob is a director, producer and actor whose career includes some of Hollywood’s most beloved films — from his 1984 directorial debut, This Is Spinal Tap, to Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992).

He first became famous for his role as Mike on the Norman Lear TV sitcom All in the Family.

Rob was born in the Bronx, N.Y., in 1947. His father was legendary comedian Carl Reiner and his mother was actress and singer Estelle Lebost.

Rob and Michele met when Rob directed When Harry Met Sally, and the couple married in 1989 before having three children.

Previously, Rob was married to the late Penny Marshall, who died in 2018 at age 75 of complications from diabetes.

In a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Nick spoke about his years-long struggle with drug addiction, which began in his early teens and eventually left him living on the streets. He said he cycled in and out of rehab beginning around age 15, but as his addiction escalated, he drifted farther from home and spent significant stretches homeless in multiple states.

Nick told PEOPLE that the chaotic period of addiction — including nights and sometimes weeks sleeping outside — later became the basis for the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he co-wrote.

“Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family," Nick told PEOPLE at the time.

An aerial view of a Brentwood home where paramedics and police responded Sunday afternoon after reports that 2 individuals were found dead inside.

Two people were found dead Sunday afternoon inside a Brentwood home owned by director and actor Rob Reiner, multiple law enforcement sources told NBCLA.

The LA Fire Department said a man and a woman were found deceased inside, approximately 78 and 68 years old.

LAPD Robbery Homicide Division detectives were assigned to the case. Several other LAPD officials said they were aware of the investigation but could not share any information.

There is a large police presence at the home Sunday evening.

LAFD paramedics were called to the home on Chadbourne Avenue around 3:30 p.m.

Within a few minutes, LAPD officers were dispatched to the home for a report of an, "ambulance death investigation," which is LAPD terminology when officers are called by firefighters to the discovery of a death.

Neighbors said Reiner and his wife live in the home, and property records indicate they own the home.

It sounds like the parents did what they could to get their son treatment to the point of cutting him off (resulting in bouts of homelessness). Claimed back in 2015 he’d been to rehab 18 times by his mid-twenties. The other two kids are apparently successful and normal. Sometimes you can do everything “right” and still get the worst outcome.
I never thought I could be so enraged on behalf of someone I hold in contempt. This isn't just the act of a desperate druggie. That fucker was full on evil.

If he wanted to be a writer, 15's not too young to start

Probably, yeah. There was probably a lot of temptation around him. Hollywood is the worst place to work if you've got a propensity for substance addiction/you're trying to recover from substance addiction
Don't forget about all the molestation and people that pry on children present all the time. Look at Will Smith children, you can't tell me that someone did something to those kids at a young age.

I'm sad he's dead because he was a great filmmaker and we've lost someone genuinely talented. Like some of the younger people here might not remember this, but the American film industry used to actually churn out quality entertainment. It wasn't always slop like it is today.
The great filmmaker died years ago when he metamorphosed into a pathetic old man who spends his every waking hour crying about Trump. I don't even see Neo Reiner as the same person as the guy who made The Princess Bride. They're the same person as much as you're currently the same person you were when you were 6 months old. Biologically, yes, you're the same organism. But there's a mental ship of theseus kind of thing going on. The original has been replaced with all new parts.

I liked The Princess Bride. I don't care about his politics. It's sad his son killed him, someone capable of creating something like that.

No parent wants to read about somebody’s own kid claiming their own parents. Drug addiction is the scariest fate one could have. At that point, they’re just desperate for their own fix regardless of the consequences.

I am not going to gravedance. He was one of my pop a bottle of champagne ones, but I'm a better person now, or at least trying. I pray for his and his wife's souls and trust that he honestly felt that he was a good person trying to make the world better, and no one can fault him for that intention no matter how he expressed it.
NGL Rob and co literally wanted you dead if you had the incorrect beliefs

Gene Hackman. He was deteriorating mentally and she was unable to provide adequate care so the house became pretty bad and she got sick from some deer mouse sickness and he was too out of it to call for help and wandered around until his heart condition took him.
He also had a terrible relationship with his children which is why no one came to check up on him. His kids essentially disowned him decades ago.

Fucking Christ.
Evil.

I mean that's WHY you got your pink triangle, for openly supporting Nick Fuentes macing that old lady, because you always talk about "da Jews"
That's not why. I got it because I was talking bad about the ✡
I'm pointing out if you want to hate a Jew and celebrate their demise
I dont hate jews and dont celebrate their demise

This thread isnt about jews to start with, i have no clue why youre so weirdly fixated on this jew thing or at least trying so hard to link me with hating jews or whatever. And then you start in on antisemitism or whatever

Just pick a lane, your trolling is disjointed and comes off as retarded

First its jews. Then its antisemitism. Then it's you defending some ✡ witch getting maced.

Just pick a lane bro

That can't be all of it, I don't doubt its an aggravating factor, but junkies dont (besides bath salt ones, or EXTREME SHIT) just fucking kill people for teh lulz.

I sense there was some other shit happening, money stuff, maybe being evicted if he owned an apartment, idk.

HIGHLY doubt it was just "ahhh, I love my dad....lets smoke some crack....and now ima kill him!!!!"

It could happen, but x to doubt.
Anyone that has been around junkies or alcoholics know this is 100% true. Unless there were underlying factors like bad untreated mental illness or they were on datura. Something happened, addicts just want the status quo to remain and be left alone, they can't handle change. Every single day as an addict is already hustle/struggle. The parents likely did something that was going to change the life of their son for the worse (in the sons eyes at least, which the parents would totally be justified doing).

They were probably going to kick him out or cut him out of inheritance. Which put him in a manchild/tard/drug rage.

He was a blowhard liberal ... And a total cringelord about his politics.

But reports are saying that his final action on this earth was him trying to protect his wife. He could have easily tried to escape to another room to call the cops or something (which likely could have saved his own life), but he didn't.

Just some perspective.
Jesus that's fucking DEPRESSING. i can't imagine the brokenness of a family to be in that situation it's really really heart throbbing. NO ONE deserves that.

Its really profound to see that even people with wealth a lot of us cant even imagine seeing in our bank accounts can't beat addiction despite all the resources they have access too.

I love Spinal Tap but man having drugs in the family just creates issues no matter what spin you can put on it. The West Coast drug culture is one of the worst things US created.

His death is funny and worth laughing about for the same reason as someone who gets mauled to death by their pet crocodile or poisoned by a captive viper. Junkies are subhuman and deserve nothing.

Regarding parenting; Reiner as a director traveled a lot for work and was MIA most of the time in his kids lives. And I don't know much about Rob's second wife but I would assume she was like most Hollywood types who paid nannies to raise her kids and let them be free range and on an allowance and rarely paid attention to them unless they were needed for a photo op. And there is an entire sub division of drug dealers in Hollywood that target kids of celebrities, directors, and studio higher ups since they have cash and the personality types (parental issues over being neglected and more if there is physical and emotional abuse going on) that make them vulnerable to become junkies. And that's not counting the mental illness shit which is completely random sometimes.
His wife was apparently a photographer as well, so yeah.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were useless libtard hippie parents that let the kids do whatever, especially because they were older parents* and "important" Hollywood elite people. They also probably had nannies that loved the kids more than they did lol.

*I might be biased in that because RR was a year older than one of my own grandparents. But I also personally don't consider having kids in your 40s+ to be 'young‘ parents.

But I do agree with you. Sometimes a kid can be born into a good situation and still end up being fucking psycho. Sometimes rotten apples just happen. Look at that the Joel Guy Jr case someone linked earlier in thread.

Also random but I noticed the Wikipedia page for Reiner removed the kids ages (but not names) from his 'Personal Life' tab.

I literally looked at it earlier and it said the years they were born but now it's removed for some unknown reason. I think they were born from 1990 to 1997.

It's probably visible in the history of the page, but I'm not sure how to go about that on mobile.

Don't forget about all the molestation and people that pry on children present all the time. Look at Will Smith children, you can't tell me that someone did something to those kids at a young age.
An aside about the Smiths: they have deep ties and a lengthy but scrubbed history with Scientology.

They've never confirmed that they're in the church but Will and Jada put at least a million into funding a Scientology-associated school for kids.

(Also Will Smith's long-standing rumored homosexuality is thought to be covered up by the church, a la John Travolta and Tom Cruise.)

While I don't doubt there was molestation going on (it's Hollywood, and look at the weird shit Willow says and does. She's an advocate for poly and open relationships and has been at an early age. She also had a controversy when she was like 14-16, being photographed in bed with a man in his twenties ages ago), there's also some other dark sided shit behind them too.

I'm totally aware, I choose to see this as God sending me my greatest challenge not to feel happy ahout this. It hasn't even been 24 hours and they were human beings, flawed like me. I'm not going to let hate turn me into those faggots doing backflips after Kirk got shot.

As a PSA to the Spinal Tap enjoyers ITT, it's totally worth it to track down a DVD copy and listen to the commentary track. It's the band in character watching the movie, and it's fucking hilarious. It's almost like a bonus movie with the same footage but an alternate set of jokes.

I've heard of z channel, but only through oddity archive's non cable pay tv videos, authough i don't think that he talked about that part of z channel

There is a documentary on the channel (IFC made it and TCM recently secured the TV rights to it) that goes into detail about it and James Woods is heavily featured in it; both talking about OUATIA and how Z Channel saved the film ala Heavens Gate, but also about Salvador and his Z Channel saved that film and helped him get nominated for an Oscar from it.
