No they didn't. They said they would drop those charges if he plead guilty to a felony, saved a trial and went on probation for 5 years. The plea deal was predictable. The endangerment stems from guns and drugs which are gone as part of probation. No drugs, no drinking, no guns achieves the objective of an endangerment conviction. Even if he plead guilty to those 2 misdemeanor charges, he would have the same punishment. It was never going to be worse than what he got. His children will largely be adults by the time he can drink again.

They could have included guilty pleas on the child endangerment charges as part of any plea deal. Or, in the alternative, offered no plea deal at all and taken the case to trial on the strong evidence they had. By not doing that, it has given Nick the opportunity to claim that they were always going to drop those charges because his children were never in any danger, and that he was always completely innocent of them. Both he and Balldoguards have since claimed exactly that, repeatedly.

Of course, they are full of shit, and I think smart people know dropping those two was conditional on him pleading guilty to the drug charge, but it's no less annoying seeing this smug asshole claim otherwise and stupid people buying into it.

But let's say you don't like that argument. That's fine. I am running a two-for-one sale today. You glossed over my second argument.

The second area where I think the county has failed is when the Sheriff played games with Hardin regarding the bodycam. After the Department of Administration advised the Sheriff to release the bodycam, the County Attorney himself directly intervened and filed a motion in Nick's case to keep it from coming out. Thus forcing Hardin to sue. I think that's actually the stronger of the two arguments I raised in terms of the county falling short.

I don't agree Kandiyohi County is, in your words, "crushing it." Sorry. I respectfully agree to disagree on that assessment.

Also, other people raised this issue, but I agree the county probation department, thus far, does not instill a great deal of confidence either.

Because he thinks being passed out on drugs is cool for some reason, that's why. His kids are a burden to him he'd rather not deal with.
