💪 Tough Guys Bob Chipman / Robert Lewis Chipman / MovieBob / Game OverThinker - "Coastal Elite Thinker" who wants conservatives, Christians and manual workers eradicated. Universally ignorant; cannot tell reality from sci-fi. Sore loser with short fuse. Odious Disney shill. Tranny chaser and general creep. Fat and diabetic.

I have no idea why I didn't comment on this at the time, but listening to the fuses in Bob's brain blow out in real time is surprisingly funny. He genuinely comes across as a grown man who has never encountered a logical paradox in his life.

Listening to these two discuss paradoxes is, in the words of Patches O'Houlihan, like watching a couple of retards trying to hump a doorknob.
LoL I was checking around the thread for that post and it seems at the time we were having one of our outages so for all we know you did try commenting and it got lost.

Oh yeah. I remember one of those I posted a clip where Chris brings up the liar's paradox to Bob and it fries his poor brain.
I completely forgot about this. These two towering intellects both overthinking and getting basic concepts wrong about this and other thought exercises is fascinating. The last minute of the clip should be required listening for all Bobologists. The Lesser Brother adding in subtext and context where neither is needed. The Lesser Brother calling this "the more simplified version of Schrodinger's Cat type stuff (...) could be Schrodinger's nose for all we wanna care about". Bob following up by asking his Lesser Brother "Is this Schrodinger's Cat or is this the tree falling in the woods". The Lesser Brother responding "Think it's a little of both". Both of them then explaining to each other poorly what Schrodinger's Cat is and then thinking it's more of a tree falling in the woods thing because Pinocchio isn't real but because no one is in the woods to hear the tree fall it's more like Schrodinger's Cat and I mother fucking dare you to go back to see if I exaggerated ANY of that.

How in the ever loving hell does The Lesser Brother have a fucking STEM degree that he actually uses if he cannot understand the damn point of a thought exercise? The point is there is no answer. You're supposed to come up with your best, reasoned out answer and NOT spend the entire time poling at the rules to try to make them give you the correct answer. This isn't a damn Oneyplays hypothetical where Zach just changes up everything at the end to make a punch line.
EDIT:
Oh if it was during the Keffals attack I think I just stopped bothering to log in for a couple of weeks.
Oh yeah. A day later the site would be down for another 10 days.

I remember that time. Not even TOR worked. I swear I remember Bob actually naming us during this time and talking about how evil, no good, poo poo bad we were but I cannot find the cap of it. I do remember him posting the "Go get 'em, kid" gif from The Rocketeer in response to something Keffals put out about going after the Farms. Where are we all now? Bob is back living at home with mom, Lucas is streaming to no one while high off his ass in Ireland, and we're still here.

To be fair we don't know how drunk they were when this was recorded. I feel like this needs to be factored in to most of Bob's ramblings, though the in the podcast @Flexo dug up he sounds relatively sober.

All over a flawed paradox anyway, and one that was incorrectly presented to begin with. As the version in the podcast goes, "Now" can be that instant or any moment in time. It's simultaneously too specific and too vague. The whole thing falls apart when you realize that being a lie or not is entirely up to Pinocchio's intent when speaking the sentence, and his nose would grow when it's late by that intent. If it becomes too internally vague then it's just not lie anymore to begin with. He would have to lie to himself within his own mind, which wouldn't exactly cancel out or be cancelled out by the spoken statement. If one became truth, the other would be a lie... Lying to himself or lying to others.

The original paradox is arguably even worse and far easier to defeat, as the actual sentence, "My nose grows now" doesn't even imply that the nose will grow in that instant. It's a passive statement, and one that is true as long as Pinocchio has the lying curse, which he does. But speaking a truth doesn't mean he's immune to the effects of telling a lie later. The fact that his nose can grow is irrelevant because it's an innate fact that it does grow. He doesn't specify and doesn't have to specify when it grows. If he did, then it would only become a lie if he stated an incorrect reason why it grows AND he was already aware of why it grows. The sentence structure doesn't work any other way. In fact, if he makes any other vague statements that could happen at any time in the future, it's not exactly a lie. "A thousand dollars could fall from the sky tomorrow" isn't a lie, for example. But again, the original statement, "My nose grows now" is true and can't be untrue unless he lost the curse, in which case his nose wouldn't be growing anyway. It's informative, not a specific declaration. A statement that is irrelevant when it ACTUALLY becomes a lie.

It's a paradox for brainlets, and that shows you how much Bob can't even get on that level.

It's a paradox for brainlets, and that shows you how much Bob can't even get on that level.

It's a pointless elaboration on a much simpler paradox that doesn't require any sort of pop culture references, which may be why it didn't occur to either one of these Rhodes scholars.

Very simply: "This statement is false."

Well, which is it? If it's true, then it's incorrect. If it's false, then it's true, which means it's also incorrect. Obviously you can drag the discussion out forever if you feel so inclined, and the Pinocchio example isn't so attenuated that it doesn't make a similar point, but this blandest of paradoxes is closer to what they were talking about than Schrodinger's Cat or the tree falling in the woods.

But then, unlike the Chipmans, I grew up in a house with books, so I was exposed to this stuff at a relatively tender age.

All good felonbro but their length should be listed so you could limit yourself to the shorter ones. I do admit I'm torn on how to do the clips. Should I keep them brief to lessen everyone's suffering? Or should I include more context for completeness sake?

Anyway I took a glance. Seems like after skipping episode 4, Bob is going to be in episodes 5-9. Possibly more. This uh... this may not help my drinking habits.

This is an amazingly great catch. I went back through the twitter search I linked way back in that original post and she doesn't ever mention doing a podcast with him tho she is obviously friendly to and with him.

So I don't have time to clip an episode tonight, but I decided to go and dig around a bit on the website to see what we could find about Monica.

So that is definitely her. The twitter her name links to in the episode 3 description is that same twitter account you investigated. BUT what's interesting is that she is no longer on the members page of BOFCA.

An initial search of the website turns up general linkage like...

Also ones where she posted her "ballot" for Oscar winners I guess.

(What's interesting is that these roundups are still ongoing, but Bob's no longer included?)

You know what IS interesting though? Monica was the founding chair of this organization.

ANNOUNCEMENT: BOFCA Names New Chairman, Web and Social Media Managers

Posted on February 12, 2014 by bofca
BOSTON ONLINE FILM CRITICS ASSOCIATION NAMES NEW CHAIRMAN, NEW APPOINTMENTS FOR WEB AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Boston – Bob Chipman has been named the new chairman of the Boston Online Film Critics Association (BOFCA), effective February 12. He succeeds founding co-chairs Monica Castillo and Daniel M. Kimmel. Castillo is stepping down to take a job in New York. Kimmel will remain with the organization as “past chairman” and advisor.

Taking the place of webmaster, which had been held by Chipman, will be Andrew Crump. Megan Kearns will take over the social media accounts that had been managed by Castillo. Evan Crean will continue in his role of treasurer.

Chipman has spent over a decade in the fields of independent film production, film criticism and pop-culture commentary. In addition to the webseries “Escape To The Movies” and “The Big Picture” for EscapistMagazine.com; he is the creator of ScrewAttack.com’s “The Game OverThinker.” He can also be found blogging at moviebob.blogspot.com.

Crump became a member of the online press in 2012 when he began writing for Go, See, Talk! Megan Kearns writes for Bitch Flicks and spearheads its social media strategy.

The Boston Online Film Critics Association was established in May of 2012 in order to foster a community of web-based film critics and provide them with a supportive group of colleagues and a professional platform for their voices to be heard.

And I knew I hit paydirt when... I found the BOFCA youtube channel.

Oh yes. You know there's one.

This article... just click on it and see how surprised you are. Especially YOU @Mola Ram.
Also image:

I also discovered BOFCA has a whole interviews section:

Which I will dig into tomorrow to see where and when Bobby pops up.

This article... just click on it and see how surprised you are. Especially YOU @Mola Ram.

I'm mildly shocked they didn't just veto his choices out of sheer obviousness. "Uh, glad you like your superhero stuff, Bob, but y'know, I don't think the Boston film community needs to bring any attention to two of the biggest movies of the year."

You know, it occurs to me how odd it is that Bob never seems to mention his time with this group, despite him featuring somewhat prominently in these podcasts. Parted on bad terms, maybe?

EDIT: I didn't realize he didn't pick Dark Knight Rises. I didn't even see the names of the critics who picked each film! I just saw superhero slops and immediately knew.

Holy shit he really would fail the breakfast question, wouldn't he?

I love how he tries to use the "If a tree falls in the woods and no one's around to hear it, does it make a sound?" question as an equivalent when it's not even close. One, the absence of a witness doesn't stop something from happening. Two, it has nothing to do with Pinocchio lying. I think he just realized how dumb he was appearing and tried to whip out the first thing he knew that was an existential question to try and appear smarter.

I really wonder what happened between the two of them that she just dropped his ass.
personally I think she found out the hard way she not only had to soft block him, but HARD block him, too, because my guess is he thought they could be more than friends, and got creepy about it but she never wanted that kind of relationship whether or not she was already in one with someone else. It's the only thing that even makes any fucking sense.

But then, unlike the Chipmans, I grew up in a house with books, so I was exposed to this stuff at a relatively tender age.
well except for books on how to outsmart therapists, evidently. Why did they even have those? (Probably to try to figure out what the fuck was wrong with Bob but they were too stupid to figure it out themselves?)

I remember doing some digging a while back myself, and yeah, for whatever reason they stopped posting anything related to Bob years ago. I don't remember how far back I dug, but at least for the past few years, the only time he pops up in an article is for an end-of-year review thing.

Annoyingly, the search function on the website only searches within titles and not the body of the posts, so searching for "Bob Chipman" only gives posts that have his name in the title, which is just the aforementioned "best of [x] year" lists, the last of which was posted in 2020 (in which you can find him glazing Eternals because "mahvel is art now!" and Benedetta because "hot nun makes my peepee hard"). From what I can tell, they stopped putting up individual members' picks after that and only bothered with posting the group's overall choices.

Naturally, this makes it harder to search for when he was last mentioned at all. And the site's structure isn't kind to search engines either, as every single post is bofca.com/[rest of URL here], with no organization like "post" to search under. Thus, any time I try to search for "bob chipman" on the site alone, even if I restrict the date ranges, I still get stuff that's way out of date. Tags are sporadically applied, and they prioritize tagging movies over reviewers' names, so frequently a tag for a movie will apply to a single post that you'd have to be wondering if any of these people ever reviewed it to even search for it in the first place. It's a goddamn mess.

Oh, by the way, did you know that Bob used to be webmaster for this group? As you posted, it's stated in the post where he took the position of chairman. This might explain why the website is as barebones as it is or the bad site structure, though it doesn't explain why it hasn't really improved at all, or why the security certificate is years out of date and keeps throwing unsafe warnings at me when I try to access it. I would like to note that the website does not list him as chairman anymore, instead stating that Evan Crean is co-chair, with Daniel M. Kimmel as "founding co-chair;" since the announcement lists that Kimmel was stepping down in place of Bob, I assume he's not in a leadership role, though it doesn't list who Evan would be co-chairing with. So I'm not saying that Bob quit or was forced out of the position or anything, but I find it odd that everyone else listed in that announcement is still part of the group and still seem to be in the same positions, save for Monica who left for bigger and brighter things, and is now a regular contributor to RogerEbert.com. Another one got away from you, Bobby!

At any rate, the only surefire way to determine where and when the last time he was mentioned outside of the "best of" lists is to scroll through the archives and manually search for his name. To save you the trouble, I'll tell you when that was: this post from April 2020. But even before that, he wasn't being brought up much at all, usually in their mid-week posts where they'd bring up other stuff besides reviews (which they also seem to have scrapped early last year). It's not interesting because it's just links to his videos and/or Escapist posts (which probably don't work anymore), but for ease of access and to see what they thought was worth highlighting, here's everything from 2019 (I'm not bothering to go any further because this isn't interesting):
I salute you and anyone else who bothers trying to dig into this. I only spent about an hour on this and I feel like I utterly wasted my time on something wholly worthless. On a final note, I would like to mention that their social media pages are basically dead, outside of Bluesky which mostly just reposts links to member reviews. Hilariously, one of the most recent reposts is of Bob e-begging:
1761646456559.png
Considering how I don't see anything similar from any of the other critics that the account has reposted, it would not surprise me if he pressured whoever runs the account to repost his panhandling for a signal boost. Maybe he still is chairman after all...

I believe you mean "anti-intelligence," Mr. Superior Future.

That being said, he's got a point. These policies are retarded and contradictory. You can't lower costs while increasing wages because wages are a cost. The EBT chimpouts will reveal exactly what kind of ungrateful nigger has turned the social safety net into a hammock, so you can bet nobody will support that either.

These people are so pathetic that they cannot help but have their "comedy" be filled with loathing for their target and self righteousness.

Honestly the EBT thing will be interesting to see how it plays because this will be a Pox on both houses when it comes to politics. While niggers chimping out will get all the attention because it is entertaining the fact is a lot of the white working class who Bob has disdain for also get snap benefits and this happening at Thanksgiving will cause long memories and will affect the midterms. Now the whites will have one benefit the blacks probably won't and that is I guarantee you those white Christian churches Bob hates are probably stocking up their food banks to help these people during the Holiday season with this happening.

as for the comment of "DEI is the new boogeyman for mediocre and untalented people who are unhappy with their position in life, so they need to blame us." Let me fix that for you Caroline. DEI is the new gateway for mediocre and untalented people who are unhappy with their position in life, so they need to blame us (& by us I mean Whites).

Lastly AOC a politician telling anyone to get a real job is rich.

(On the topic of Bob being obsolete and refusing to stream. Give clocks if late)

Bob was popular back in the day because of first mover advantage. ie. Bob was one of the first YouTube gaming pundits and angry film reviewers. Most creators of that time either changed with the times (Red Letter Media, JonTron) or resigned themselves to be a nostalgia act. (AVGN, Lazy Game Reviews) Bob even said as much in an old Game Overthinker, shitting on Megaman as a nostalgia act repeating the glory days while Mario was multigenerational and evergreen due to constant reinvention.

Despite recent algorithm motherfuckery, the simple fact of the matter is a lot of entertainment is evergreen. Screw Attack Top 10 videos aren't much different from the "10 woke bombs of the last decade!" type AI slop videos that rack up 400k views. The AVGN style angry reviewer shtick is still going strong, It's just dominated by Red Letter Media, Critical Drinker, and Nerdrotic/Friday Night Tights.

In a way, Bob's career and downfall mirrors that of Jim Sterling. Bob never trooned out, but like Jim he backed the wrong horse over a decade ago and refused to move on.

Setting aside the whole "normal white people is actually Nazi-coded" insanity, I would like to point out that the only reason those quaint Vermont towns are overwhelmingly Democrat is because they're so insulated from the results of their votes that they can afford the luxury to vote for the good feels party. Vermont is over 90% non-Hispanic white, and niggers make up only about 1% of their population. I can guarantee you that if they had the demographics of the Deep South and their nigger population was in the high double digits, they'd be voting red yesterday.

From anime, to manga.
manga.webp
This was the big one I wanted to address, and it shows Bob's utter retardation whenever he takes one step outside of his element.

It starts with a couple people bringing up the standard comparison between American comic books and Japanese manga: namely, comic books have a sprawling interconnected universe going on for decades that's nearly impossible for a newcomer to get into, while manga offers up a large variety of stories that rarely if ever have any overlap and can easily be read start to finish. Bob then blunders in with his "um aykshyually" take where he says that the long-running existence of One Piece and the fact it hasn't ended yet means that the entire foundation of their argument is stupid and he is actually a very smart man.

First off, the occasional example of a long-running manga does not mean that the entirety of the industry is full of projects that never end. Hell, look at the other two of the Big Three back in the day, Naruto and Bleach; both of those eventually reached their conclusions despite both of them running for fifteen years each. Most series will continue as long as sales are good, so as long as a work remains popular, an author will usually have free reign to continue their story as long as they wish.

Second, Bob utterly fails to miss the more salient point (that admittedly the original posters don't quite vocalize): manga is a hell of a lot easier to follow. You grab volume 1, you read it, and you continue until the end; that end doesn't even have to be the actual end, only the end of the story up to that point as the author continues to work on it. By contrast, following even one superhero's story is a nightmare. You have to figure out where to begin, try and find the appropriate issues and read through them (which may or may not have been reprinted), pick up seemingly unrelated comics for more plot details, work through massive crossover events, deal with continuity resets that invalidate huge chunks of what came before...is it any wonder that the most successful capeshit in the modern day is self-contained stories like Invincible?

Finally, Bob once again tries to claim that manga is actually more equivalent to newspaper comics and not comic books, because something something they're in black-and-white? Really, the only decent comparison between manga and newspaper comics is in shorter gag strips like 4-koma, which are basically the same format. The vast majority of manga is so obviously more comparable to comic books that it's honestly flabbergasting that Bob continues to try to push this retarded idea.

In summation: Bob, you're a fucking retard. Please stop talking.
Uh huh, sure, I totally believe that the entire city of Boston was super progressive and had no problem with fags getting married. Right.
