A paycheck is a paycheck but I can't imagine a world where a beat cop would willingly line up to arrest/impede federal agents. Not out of some moral or political ideology, but the act completely skull fucking their everything. One way or the other.

america didn't have deep resentment or hatred for japan. pearl harbor was seen as a dishonorable sucker punch move but beyond that there was little ill will.

Macarthur played his cards perfectly and probably oversaw the best occupation America's ever had of a foreign country. Granted the Japanese are high trust and everything, but there was no guarantee things would have worked out if they had originally went after the emperor as they wanted to.


The most kino occupation moment was when a couple Americans parachuted in ahead of the main force right after the surrender. Their job was to make contact with the Japanese prison camps and get our men secured ASAP. When they landed they received sporadic gunfire, but their instructions were to not engage under any circumstance. ( I don't even think they had weapons) They calmly walked towards the gunfire and the Japs immediately stopped. The unflappable bravery of those men was proof enough the war was over.

They also scared the shit out of the prison camp leader when he tried to be coy about how many prisoners he had. They "politely" informed him they already knew.

It's kind of sad that the last good thing the French ever did concluded around 1784.

For the most part, they aren't. Portland police are under portlands control, and they're following orders to not do their jobs. The federal government has extremely limited authority over them, and none of that authority is to order them to perform actions or arrests. The portland police chief wants them to be doing this, and the feds can't do shit about him.

Thats what makes this muddy, the city has powers and rights separate from the feds. What should be happening is that these officers should be refusing to follow shitty orders from local command, but that would only remove them from the scenario, not get them authority to perform mass arrests or anything.

This is a load of crap. Police have zero immunity under Federal law. They are a municipal force that doesn’t even exist at a Federal level. They can be arrested for obstruction of justice at the very least. If they make an arrest on a Federal officer, that is kidnapping.

A city has zero rights under the Constitution. All city power comes from the states and is preempted by state laws, and the matter of Federal superiority over states was settled almost two hundred years ago. States also have a statutory requirement to enforce Federal law. The fact that the government hasn’t been minding the states ‘decriminalizing’ certain things has been entirely at the pleasure of the Federal government.
