Good policy; coddling a NEET is bad for them and gets you not gratitude, but resentment--murder schemes at worst.
NEETs, or maybe just lolNEETs, have a cargo cult mentality. Why do <you/their mom/worldwide mad gangster Dr. Joe Muscato> have so much cargo living situation and groceries? It can't be due to working; it has to be the favor of the gods. You support a NEET, you're at risk of getting Joel Guy'd; the NEET kills the goose to get the golden eggs.
This isn't the same as people who are trying but failing to get hired because of the 2025 hellscape; NEETs pretend to be them the same way meth criddlers pretend to be the "one paycheck away" homeless.
I see what your getting at but I think Dave is just a bad seed.
Some people are just born to be assholes. It doesn't really depend on the parents or the upbringing some people are just born bad.
Dave's parents did all they could to raise Dave properly as we know his other siblings (even his twin) turn out to be pretty normal people who went on to live pretty normal lives.
Dave...Dave is a narcissistic, lazy, entitled slacker who wants everything handed to him on a plate and even at 40 refuses to do
any amount of work to get what he wants. Nope, it's the world holding him back, it's his parents evil conspiracy making sure that he can't sit on his ass all day and just get the world handed to him on a sliver platter.
As an aside I do wonder if the fact that his parents probably removed him from their will has really hit home yet? Or do you think even after all this shit they will still leave him a million or so just because he is their son in the end?
Fuck I know I've said this before but even his music, the one thing Dave claims is the very core of his identity, the very centre of his being he only puts the minimal effort into. Sure he loves being a "geetar guy" but he's been playing for nearly 25 years by now and he's still barely mediocre at it. He only noodles around until he gets bored, there is no drive for self improvement that a true artist or music lover has because that takes effort and a self critical view Dave cannot bear. Also I don't think music is really that important to Dave, it's the hipster geetar guy persona he really loves. It makes him feel all edgy and kool even as 45 closes in on him.
TLDR: Some people are just born assholes and it's not their parents fault.
