To be frank, I'd sooner chalk it up to the "10 years ago" part. A lot of shit has happened and I had a harsh burnout period right afterwards that did absolutely nothing nice for me. It would not surprise me whatsoever if I just completely blanked on it and went with other assumptions in the process. Related but not this, part of me has been wondering since that fuckup if I've been losing the edge on this stuff I had in college. Either that's correct, or college was the bush leagues and the Farms are the majors.

The American versions of all four of those cuisines are better than the authentic versions. I don’t think you actually know what authentic Chinese food or pre-European Japanese food is or how limited “traditional” Italian cuisine is or that many French pastries are Austrian imports.

It doesn't get much press, but I think RFK is actually getting good results. Texas just managed to reach an "enforceable voluntary deal" with Kelloggs to remove artificial dyes over the next couple of years from all of their products.

I travel to Asia multiple times a year. If you think shit like Sbarro and Panda Express is better than what you can get in those countries, you're an idiot. I've also been to some of the better restaurants in America, and while they can be very good, they're also hideously expensive. The best Chinese food I ever had was in a restaurant in Chengdu. Often touristy spots are the worst places to get food. I hear about people going to Beijing or Guangzhou, or Shibuya in Japan, and they say the food is meh. A friend of mine had the worst fish and chips at a place near the Tower of London. If you avoid places that cater to tourists you will find better food as local people have a higher expectation.
