They are just trying to front-run other traders, so all they care about is how they think other traders and the broader public will react to the job reports. They care about weather forecasts for the same reason. Doesn't matter whether the forecast of a catastrophic flood that will decimate crops will actually happen, what matters is that I got the forecast and bought a bunch of puts before other investors did.
