I don't know about the origin of the Mafia but apparently they first appeared during Sicily's transition from feudalism to capitalism and the unification with the Kingdom of Italy. The fact it seems that it was such a major issue primarily for Sicilians leads me to believe there was some localized reason or issue organized crime appeared to flourish there.

The part about Fascist Italy crushing the Mafia is true, he sent a man named Cesare Mori to take them down and to accomplish this he often used iron-fisted tactics similar to Mafiosos to accomplish his goals. House to house searches were arranged, arrests were made en masse and he sought to humiliate the Mafia in order to show they had no power compared to a central government. The remnants of Italian organized crime were later used in a practical and convenient manner when the Allies invaded Sicily during World War 2 which contributed to their revival after that great conflict was over.

That other post about Louisiana is also true to an extent (I'm not sure if the organized crime links were ever proven or not though). From what I've read, in New Orleans there was a growing number of Italians who had been brought in by the business community to replace Black labor because they were claimed to work more efficently then their formerly enslaved counterparts. Local corruption and political machines were also a factor in the lynchings. A good piece of trivia to go along with the whole mess is that the United States President at that time made Columbus Day into a thing in order to improve relations with Italy and placate Italian Americans after it all happened.

The problem is that Russia has reneged on deals before and basically lied to Trump to his face. If we really want to see a long lasting peace to this conflict Trump has to put Russia's balls in a vice to make it impossible for them to start another one of their "special operations".

At least where I engineer American cars (PL, I know, but if someone really wanted to find out they could piece it together from my post history pretty easily), I can say with confidence that at least here, the only thing done by Indians is waste time and drive up the cost. Nothing they do ever actually makes it into our cars... except maybe base software. That stuff's a shitshow and it's outsourced to parts unknown... probably India.

This is real. They've built something like 100's of Airports in the last decade or so, and AirIndia and Indio, the two airlines that operate out of India, have expanded their fleet of aircraft by the 100's as well. India is currently on a MASSIVE sniping operation to buy out experienced Aerospace companies in the US who have the specialized knowledge on the special processes surrounding aircraft part repair, maintenance and replacement. The Jeets have no idea how to do some of these things and they're going to "purchase" the knowledge by buying up struggling US companies.
