That said, there is in rare cases, a form of DS that is inheritable, notably in balanced translocation cases (typically Robertsonian translocations which are found on certain , chromosomes) where a piece of chromosome 21 is attached to another chromosome and it gets passed down. The person carrying the balanced translocation would not have DS and be perfectly fine. This is statistically unlikely but technically possible, making up maybe 1 percent of all DS cases.
