This was preceded by about a 30-min standoff at that intersection, which included Antifa throwing bottles and M80s into the Rally crowd. Also included shit like this:
I can understand how someone might have this view at a cursory glance, but it loses validity when basic context is considered. These Antifa fucks have been popping off all over, but just to focus on Berkeley:
February: Milo Yiannopolous was supposed to do a talk. Milo doesn't espouse violence, so one's opinion of him is a moot point. People wanted to go to his event, and they were beaten with poles, maced, and chased down the street. Event cancelled. Antifa thrashed event building and local businesses to the tune of $500k in damages. Police did nothing to stop it.
March: Trump supporters had a march and rally. They were beaten with poles and maced. This time some folks fought back, but again, police did nothing to stop the violent instigators.
April: 1st Amendment advocates (no, not all Trump supporters, not all "alt-right") said "fuck this bullshit" and came prepared to stand ground. And even though the attendees disarmed themselves in accordance with the temporary guidelines put in place for the event (no flagpoles, no mace, etc) and Antifa did not, Antifa still got its shit pushed in. (And again, as Antifa was lobbing M80s and 5-pound rocks into the crowd, the police did nothing)
The rally attendees were totally in the right to fight back. Antifa comes with the express intent to violently "shut it down." Now, if the police aren't going to do shit to protect people's 1st Amendment rights, what exactly do you suggest? I guess right-of-Marx speakers/events just aren't "allowed" in Berkeley/SF Bay Area any more? Anyone that wants to go for a peaceful walk in their MAGA hat just needs to suck it up and leave it at home for fear of a 2x4 to the back of the dome? Fuck all that noise. Fuck it right in its blown-out, grizzle-bearded, trust-funded commie ass.
