I feel like J is splitting hairs when she talks about the number of people who die from knee surgery. That number could include people who die on the table, which is hardly anyone because they're pretty good at risk assessment. It could also include people who die of complications afterwards, including infection. We just don't have enough information. (/autism)
She should instead look for stats for hugely morbidly obese people who die during any surgery, which will again be a very small number because of risk assessment, but a better metric to judge by. I can say that a bmi of up to 48 (300 pounds in the case of the person I know) is not a barrier to major knee surgery. The surgeon and anesthesiologist didn't even bat an eye. But J? No, they'd tell her to get a bypass and lose 200 pounds first.
As far as infection problems, there's no way someone Js size is going to be a better infection risk than any one of us. J doesn't show layg but Tess does. Her knee is swallowed up by her leg fat. Incisions that can't breathe through the bandages are a petri dish for infection, especially since you can't get the incision wet to remove the bacteria caused by sweat. Plus the blood sugar issues that can delay healing.
