For example, commenting on the use of the word zer’a ("seed"') in Genesis 13:15 and 17:8, Paul says: "Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. It does not say, 'And to seeds, referring to many; but, referring to one, 'And to your seed,' who is Christ" (Galatians 3:16). Paul's claim that a single individual is meant by the term "seed" in Genesis 13:15 and 17:8 is either deliberately deceptive or a sign of a shocking lack of knowledge. Nowhere in the Pentateuch do we find the plural of "seed" used with reference to human descendants. In all instances, the singular term "seed" is used in a plural sense (e.g., Genesis 13:16, 17:10, 22:17-18 ). This is clearly stated in Genesis 17:8: "... and I will be their God," where the third-person plural pronoun, "their," refers to "your seed."
