This honestly would kick ass - you could cut out a ton of car trips just by adding one bus and one driver ($250k for the bus, $100k/yr for the driver) to small towns. Even just going up and down mainstreet would be nice. You could repurpose school bus drivers!
Heck you don't even need the biggest busses as short busses could suffice most of the time. The advantages of busses is their flexibility in sizes and fulfillment of needs

Listen I don't wanna tell you how to have fun, but you'll never 'get' anyone with internet comments. As soon as they see any dissent they delete/ban/block it away. It will also be pointlessly expensive, sure it may work in smaller regions, but many of the trains that went through where I lived no longer work. Passenger trains haven't come through here for a very long time as well, so there will be all sorts of shit to repair. Not to mention frigid temperatures during winters damaging the tracks, many of which, have been unused, so I would give it years for somewhere I live. And many Americans seeing how public transport in many cities are like homeless shelters, it makes sense that many don't want anything to do with it. No sane parent wants to explain why the meth addict is overdosing right in front of them to their child.
When I was in college I rode the subway everyday because I had no car. Without powerleveling too hard if you looked at a subway map of my area I lived the far most west of the map. I had to ride toward the center of the map eastward and then sort of in a north west direction upward. If you're visualizing this in your head you can kind of see why this isn't very efficient. Literally it's like one of those vector puzzles where you have dozens of arrows pointing in different directions only for it to result in a single direction.
