If it was as lazy and half-assed as K makes it sound, the cops really blew a chance to tack on some trafficking charges. Something is really rotten here.

People don't like to think about it, but quite often in small county situations the biggest drug hustlers in the market is the local sheriff and the state prosecutor. Those two can make a shit ton of money if they both go into business together. Even better, everyone knows not to say shit either because the two of them together can very easily wreck you in a way that is perfectly above board.

Not saying that is the case here, but in general this would be the most likely reason why a Sherriff and Prosecuting attorney suddenly cut a sweet heart deal with a major druggie and then sweep it up for him.
