The Doctor Who fumble is much more impressive than Star Wars to me. After the Prequels Star Wars was basically a joke IP sustained entirely by the original trilogy and the expanded universe and games, whereas Doctor Who was able to create a resurgence in the early 00s that arguably took the series to the highest levels of popularity it had ever seen.

Star Wars was already on the ropes and Disney just made it worse, Doctor Who was at its cultural peak and the BBC decided to fuck it into the dirt in the name of DEI. If the BBC weren't taxpayer funded their retarded decisions would have shut them down a long time ago.

It's even funnier when you think about NuWho in this way - Russel T Davies, a flamboyant gay man, revived Doctor Who for the modern audience and made a cast of pretty diverse characters (for a setting that is set in contemporary Britain anyway,) that is beloved by many Doctor Who fans.
Rose Tyler's boyfriend/ex-boyfriend Mickey is a black man. He's not quite a hoodrat or ghetto, either. He feels like an interesting, flawed and believable character.
Martha Jones, the second companion of NuWho after Rose Tyler, is a black woman who is a successful doctor until she gets swept up in the drama of the Doctor's life. She's occasionally melodramatic but she's nowhere near Rose Tyler in Mary Sue points, and she even goes on to sacrifice everything to rescue the Doctor and have the universe fixed.
NuWho also introduces a much-loved eccentric and flamboyant gay/pansexual character in Jack Harkness, a man who isn't only attracted to beautiful people and is unapologetically horny (for a family show, anyway.) Jack also has a front-and-center gay relationship in Torchwood, and Captain Harkness also flirts with the Doctor on multiple occasions.
These are just three "diverse" and social justice'y characters that immediately spring to mind. They are loved by the fandom and I don't recall any controversies regarding the Russel T Davies-era diverse cast because they didn't feel like tokens even in a post-gamergate hindsight.

I think it's funny I remember less about the obvious DEI characters like Bill Potts than I do about Mickey Smith. Bill is gay. Wow. So interesting and special.
I haven't watched the Thirteenth Doctor's episodes at all and I don't intend to ever return to Doctor Who past the 12th Doctor, not even the new episodes with David Tennant because fuck troon "allies".
One obvious DEI character I do actually genuinely like is Missy, the female reincarnation of The Master. She's batshit insane, funny and interesting and she doesn't feel like a forced genderswap even though I know that's the case. She just feels like The Master as a woman.
