Every word that oozes out of Nick's mouth just makes me more and more certain that you simply cannot share a society with Libertarians.

He cannot comprehend that he endangered them. He doesn't care that he dosed one of them. He doesn't even consider that it might be true, and that he might have actually been wrong in his belief that the test was fake or he didn't do it or whatever story he's saying today. He doesn't even stop and go, "oh fuck, maybe it really was me, maybe I actually did something horrible. Maybe I did it accidentally, but it was still under my watch, with my drugs, so it would've been my fault."
His sole focus is figuring out what he needs to say so that he can worm his way out of whatever trouble he's in, so that he can go back to being a hedonist.

He doesn't care about what it does to his kids for them to have to see their parents being obviously unfaithful, or constantly high, or in a weird fucked-up threesome relationship. He doesn't care about how disrupting a family would affect the stability of the rest of his community, and I'm sure that he can't understand why that would be the case. He can't comprehend that other people might perceive what he was doing as something inherently negative which needed to be stopped for everyone's sake.

He just cares that it was fun, and that he wanted to do it.
That's as far as his thought process goes on any of this. His mind is working on the same level as your average inner-city youth who robs a liquor store.
Nick cannot even understand that the cops were hostile toward him because of his own actions. This motherfucker's brain doesn't work.

Whatever conduct he's alleging is not serious. The GAL is not going to risk their career or put the children in jeopardy. The GAL only cares about the interest of the children (this is why Nick hates her). The GAL didn't automatically say that Nick and Kayla being free and having the kids was in the kids best interest. Not arguing that the kids should be immediately returned to the drug den made her the enemy.

If the concerns brought to GAL were serious, she would have first reported them to the police. Second, she would have reported it to the court. She would have advocated for their removal from the custody of the offender. She has no reason not to and it's the argument she made to keep them in foster care away from Nick. She's not afraid of that argument.

So the obvious conclusion is whatever Nick is imagining as serious is on the same order as the relevance of watermarks on his stream.

You'd be surprised, money isn't magic, it's a resource that you have to actually be smart enough to know how to utilise, and above all it can't fix stupid.

Bob and Celeste might be able to afford him the best representation money can buy, but then Nick would have to admit that someone else knows the law better than him and then shut up and do as they tell him. They could get him the best addiction treatment in America, but then he'd have to admit he has a problem and that he's lost control of his life. They could also get him the best medical coverage, but that can only help so much if he huffs too much nitrous and shuts his brain down permanently, or he gets shot in a drug deal/prostitution set up.

Of course the fact his parents are who they are will absolutely help to shield him from a significant amount of consequence for his failings, as they have for his entire life. But that can only go so far, and eventually unless he makes a very dramatic turnaround he'll push things too far.
