It sounds like he's basically given up already, I've lived with my own parents for a while after graduating high school and I understand the frustration.
At least they let him have some kind of escapism or recreation. My parents expected me to go to college or at least get a job and pay rent after high school. Definitely made moving out look like an attractive option, although it didn't happen overnight.
