💪 Tough Guys Hector Martin / Héctor Martín Cantero / @marcan42 / マルカン / @marcan42x / @marcan@treehouse.systems / Asahi Lina / Asahi Linux - Developer of Asahi Linux with a VTuber persona. Made Byuu's death unbelievable. Constantly accuses others of harassment and abuse. Hates Hacker News and Kiwi Farms.

Their only goal is to exist without being scrutinized and hated on just because they don't stick to the ridiculous ideology of "WAHHH THERE ARE ONLY TWO BIOLOGICAL GENDERS WAAAAAHHHH", which is honestly pathetic as fuck and just makes you come off as hella insecure.
What's really "hella insecure" is blatantly lying like this. The last thing any troon would want is to exist without being scrutinized, everything they do is about making you sure you know they're different and unique.

He's going to keep prodding until he gets a response, because he's a drama-addicted faggot.
Welcome to the new breed of Open Source 'Contributors' - idiots with a Reddit account who haven't contributed a single line of code that's not stolen off Stackoverflow. All while shitting up the discussion forums with gender politics.

"Being such a self-righteous moral activist for the latest happenings in software and technology, he went as far as aiding in deplatforming this very website."

Why do these people hate free speech and people having opinions so badly?
I understand it's not fun for people to talk about you negatively, but if you're internet famous you're simply going to get criticized, it's unavoidable.

How did the Lina/Luna ship blow up? I didn’t see that happening. What did Luna mean by ‘abuse’?

EDIT: give me clocks, I found it earlier in the thread.

I get confused with all these stupid names. So are Cyan and Lina still together or did that blow up too?

What? No, that can't be true. I remember when I went to school all my teachers had "yes, I AM a woman" posters hanging in their rooms. And then there was that day where all the straight people got together, stripped naked and had sex in public while everyone clapped about how inspirational they were.

In fact my business card states "Racially white (sorry), male-assigned-gender (sorry), that is open to consenting sexual interactions with female (assigned or otherwise) individuals as long as they are in a relatively similar power dynamic who may also revoke consent to any such interactions at any time"

If you are interested in hiring me or know someone who might be, please get in touch. Remote positions only please, on a consulting or flexible time/non exclusive basis.
I guess his plan is to be employed as Hector Martin, but only post on social media or contribute code as Lina from now on (a persona that has not been tainted by Linus Torvalds' ire).

Sensible. I'd expect employment contracts under your VTuber pseudonym to be a massive pain in the ass unless you officially register it as your stage name, which would defeat the point for Hector. "Lina" can only really work for patreonbux.

What, you didn't have the Cishet Story Hour where an adult male would do a strip tease in front of children?

The reason for the original rule they made an exception for so this scumbag troon could do commits from a pseudonym was to avoid bad actors trying to escape their past misdeeds.

Amazingly, the first person to take advantage of it is a dude trying to escape his past misdeeds.

This arc will crash and burn within a year. Marcan has great potential.

Hector only has a few more days before his Mastodon account becomes unrecoverable. @The Mass Shooter Ron Soye is probably right that "Hector Martin" will only be used in a very limited fashion (mostly employment) from now on.
RIP Marcan - he's coming closer & closer to being completely consumed by Asahi Lina.

He's still semi-active on his Reddit account [a] though, at least for now. He can't resist complaining & trying to correct the record:

He posted a lot in this thread: https://old.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1iy6l8j/christoph_hellwig_resigns_as_maintainer_of_dma/ [Archive]

Just move on, already! 🙄

Which reminds me, his last outburst on the Linux kernel mailing list was completely ignored. Zero replies.

Btw, I noticed that the new Asahi Linux team is off to a rough start on their fundraising...
Money for Asahi Linux development was previously collected through Marcan's personal Patreon & Github. I'm not sure how much he was making, but in 2024, he had 1000+ patrons on Patreon and ~450 sponsors on Github. I believe he was bringing in a decent amount, although he mentioned being disappointed that it was slowly decreasing over time.

Anyway, Hector closed his Patreon upon resigning. His Github Sponsors page is still up though (and has lost 100+ sponsors) - I assume this money will no longer be going to Asahi Linux.

The new Asahi Linux governance team is collecting money solely through OpenCollective (a crowdfunding platform that is supposed to be more transparent).

As of now, they have 382 financial contributors. They've raised $9,600 so far with an estimated annual budget of $61k (depending on recurring monthly contributions). Hard to tell for sure, but I assume this is a considerable step down from when Hector was in charge.
I don't personally care about Asahi Linux, but it'll be interesting to see if it survives Hector's childish ragequit. Just posting this so someone can compare the numbers in a year or so.

With Richard Stallman's cancer in remission, and all the assholes in the Rust community jumping off their sinking ship, there's still hope for the future of Open Source Software.
I’ll say it again: companies aren’t willing yo rely on moody trans programmers who drop a project as soon as any sliver of criticism (i.e. bug report) lands on their desk. They’re too emotionally unstable and it’s the elephant in the room that no one is going to ignore in the next five years.

Anyone who knows anything about programming knows that fixing bugs in the code eats up most of the developer's time. All software has bugs as making mistakes is human nature. Bug Reports are important so the developer knows what to fix and where. Getting butthurt over them isn't something a successful developer will do.

One of the big problems with languages like Rust is that they claim to remove the main causes of errors (memory leaks) created by programmers accidentally. If programmers actually realized they could use References instead of Pointers they wouldn't need to invent new languages and have the communities staffed with morons more interested in gender politics than computer science.

Rust et al. have never promised to eliminate memory leaks (indeed it is very possible to leak memory in Rust), what they promise is memory safety. Please don’t talk out of your ass, the trannies do enough of that already.

Various C/C++ codebases have used references for decades and they still have lots of memory safety issues. It’s not a magic bullet.

FRONT HOLE you bigot

Rusties get all obsessed with the idea that their code is "correct" and fail to see that "correct" code can still be plenty buggy. If you programmed in something like an off-by-one, the "correct" behavior is not what you intended. It's not a fucking cheat code toward being a good programmer.

Hector got ass blasted by bug reports because they are an affront to his ego, and they appeared on a scale he never had to cope with previously. No shit, donations dropped off once the bulk of the work was done (and he started being a public embarrassment on a similarly large scale).

Hell, I'm slightly embarrassed I looked up to this dude once upon a time for enabling me to pirate the fuck out of my Wii.

If it makes you feel any better he got extremely ass blasted that people would dare use his software to pirate their Wiis.
Oh yeah, I clearly recall all the retardation with (I think it was) Riivolution refusing to work with burned discs. There was also some kind of aspergery going on with the Homebrew Channel and AHBPROT, though the details escape me atm. I also don't seem to remember having any problem working around it. The rest of Team Twizzlers probably bailed on him once the real work was done and he started being a sperg. Then we got Gay Bannerbomb.

Joke's on him, I guess. I donated my optical drive to my little nephew (he cried in joy at Christmas when I fixed his Wii with it) and I just used Wiim's shit to patch Mario Kart or whatever I was playing at the time, in lieu of using Riivolution.

Marcan is a niggerfaggot, and when I asked an AI to produce a portrait of him, this is what it generated:

That's not the crux of the issue, proper ownership handling is. You can use whatever you want, as long as it is always clear who owns what object. You can do null dereferencing or use after free with references, and have good semantics with pointers. What the rusty trannies don't realize is that language features only help in this (and C++ already has all the necessary features in RAII, it had it since its conception, everything else is just ease of use in this regard), what you actually need is discipline to follow some simple rules.
