Agreed. Trump is really deciding to wrestle the God with this one. From a purely pragmatic standpoint the benefits of the USA taking control of Gaza are obvious. Its even obvious why the people of Gaza would be overjoyed at the idea.

But the middle east does not function under pragmatic rules. Its very emotionally based, and the people of Gaza just got done being bombed by Israel with weapons supplied by the United States. Its very unlikely that they will entertain this idea with good cheer. More broadly though, Gaza has been conditioned to be slave population for the last half century, dependent on charity hand outs with no economy beyond basic luxury purchasing and the distribution of charity from the UN and the Arab League. There is a huge jump from being literal cattle sent stampeding at the whim of their masters to an actual individual citizen, which is sort of a requirement for being an American.

They would probably shoot us for even suggesting they should work for a living and make their city better for their own benefit rather then expect the USA to just do all the work for them. And then get blown up after we are done.
