I'm tired of all the "Tiktok ban == good" bullshit. Nobody is talking about why the Democrats backed it and are pushing it. You think they actually give a fuck about China? They shill out for them all the time.
No, it's because ByteDance (parent company of Tiktok) is 60% owned by US institutional investors. Who owns the most? A private financial company most haven't heard of (by design) called Susquehanna International Group. They invested $5 million into ByteDance when it was founded (15% ownership share, the largest of any firm), which as of 2020 was worth ~$20B.
Why is this relevant? Well, the co-founder and managing director of Susquehanna is Jeff Yass, the billionaire whose true net-worth is unknown due to Susquehanna being a private company with no obligations to report to shareholders.
He is also the largest Republican political donor in both the 2020 and 2024 election campaigns, in additional to countless public and reported actions that makes it clear he is the main money behind the Republicans/Trump.
So, I've always maintained that the Tiktok ban was deliberately made to punish Jeff Yass by the democrats, and they got enough gormless Republicans onboard to shove it through by tying it to an act to give more money to Israel and Ukraine.
Because the Democrats caring about "Chinese spying on our brainrot content!!!" doesn't hold water in any other interpretation in my eyes

I know an addict and she's been posting videos teaching people enough Chinese to be able to use the app on other social media. It's absolutely addict behavior and it's wild to watch. Of course, it sounds like a lot of them are also getting banned, because it has much stricter ToS and the Chinese don't approve of open faggotry.

Right now on TikTok there really is a big push to check out RedNote (the Google Play English name). It has a zero degeneracy allowed policy which is somewhat refreshing.

Ive been seeing people complain about "T-TIKTOK BEING BANNED IS BAD!" but in my eyes its a net positive for society. Fuck Tiktok and fuck every other website that tries to emulate their short video format and shitty layout (I'm looking at you, Youtube.). So a bulk of the negative reaction is from an "extreme social media addiction" view huh?

While Tiktok has clear problems I'm happy the modern day Social Media-Entertainment hubs are run by several different corporations as opposed to how it was in 2018 with just Facebook, Google, and Amazon having what amounted to an Oligopoly.

I don't think that's quite it. Most people who work corporate jobs know that you can't discuss material non-public information. So you do discuss work to some extent with friends and family members and nothing ever comes of it. And it's not hard to see how once you start talking about some things with some people, and with no clear guidance on what it's okay to discuss with who (because officially it's all prohibited), it becomes a Judges 21:25 situation.

I have refused to sign up for TikTok.
The way it has been implemented in the United States for sure causes brain rot among children and adults alike. If we were talking about China's TikTok, then I wouldn't have any issues, as they use it for educational purposes and basically as a science app for kids to use.
That said, I don't agree with an outright ban on it.
Democrats are totally losing their stranglehold on social media; the election loss proves it. They've lost Twitter, they're losing Facebook (I still fucking hate lizard person Zuckerberg though, but I digress), and they've lost their far left stranglehold on TikTok ever since Trump signed up on the app.
This attempt to ban it isn't to protect children. It's out of panic because they are losing the Information War.

It will take about 5 minutes without TikTok for their whole user base to switch to the next best thing. If there's a working alternative on Sunday that's good enough there could be a complete migration.
