As someone who has had to deal with a -lot- of autistic people... seriously, you have no idea how high the ratio is for analytical fields. The best thing an autistic person can have is a gentle but firm person as a major social contact. Someone who won't insult them or belittle them or get angry with them. but who will tell them firmly "Stop that, its not okay, it is not socially acceptable".

It takes some patience but they do eventually learn to spot the social cues through effort rather than the intuitive nature most have.

It's REALLY fun when they finally do learn to spot the social cues and then go back to every human interaction they've ever had in their life and realize "oh shit, they didn't actually think that was funny" or "oh. oh god that was flirting" or "OH, they WERE upset, and that's why I haven't talked to them in 20 years."
