The New London Evangelical Covenant Church, the church where Pastor Melin and others observed the Rekieta children stinky and hungry, recently resumed their livestreams of services on YouTube. I found some archives of their mailing list, and there is some interesting information within.

Regrettably I can’t access earlier ones from around the time of the arrest if they exist, but here is a snippet penned by Pastor Melin himself from an email dated June 30th (archived here):

And then, in mid September (archive), Pastor Melin starts talking about retirement. He announces to the congregation they are welcome to take anything from his personal library. Books about the Bible, marriage, parenting, etc. Literally everything.



He left his final note to the congregation. It is an interesting letter. I don't know how common it is for pastors when they retire, it sounds like there's some ethical code, but he basically says he will not talk about church stuff if he bumps into you in the grocery store.



And then, with the departure of Pastor Melin from the congregation, livestreams resumed (archive).



I don't know how much the Rekieta drama influenced Pastor Melin's decision to retire at the end of September, or if it impacted him so much as to question his faith, but I would not be at all surprised. Poor dude.
