I identified as trans for 8 years. 8 years ago it was about medicalization, with the whole "brain sex" nonsense, hormone imbalances, or "gendered consciousness." Their defense was that male and female brains were different, and that in the womb estrogen/testosterone flooded the brain while testosterone/estrogen was distributed elsewhere. There is no scientific evidence of this. This isn't even how people develop in utero. What this theory comes from is the few studies on the slight differences between male and female brains, with male brains having more white matter. I guess gender is stored in white matter. Ultimately, these differences are so slight that its as bunk as the race brain differences from the late 1800s.

Essentially, I see female v. male brain "science" as defunct as Broca's desperation to prove that black people were "inferior." Broca would always create excuses as for why some brains looked super similar despite being different races, by blaming it on diet or simply saying "this one is the exception." But of course, Broca also believed there were differences between female and male brains. But the same issue arises, brains can be very similar or very different, no matter their sex. Once you zoom out and take every other characteristic into account, the differences are so minute they don't mean much.

Broca and friends were the ones to introduce this idea...so essentially the argument for gender ideology comes from the same guy who studied race science that later inspired the Nazis. Horseshoe theory.

Later on, there was a new battle-Self-ID versus medicalism, aka tucute (too cute) versus truscum (true scum). Truscum are also known as transmedicalists. They're the ones who believe in brain sex and all that. The tucutes believe that anyone can identify as trans for any reason, and that they are valid no matter what. They're the ones behind the neopronouns and nounpronouns.

The medicalization route failed, but it has some level of use in the medical field. Gender dysphoria is seen as something caused by a hormone imbalance in the womb or a psychiatric disorder that is only cured through transitioning. But...we don't know that and more recent studies have shown their ineffectiveness. But any other option or any attempt in studying alternatives is seen as conversion therapy. As retarded as that sounds. It's because transness is still associated with a biological reality that is seen with gays. A gay dude will get a boner if you show him gay porn. Straight men will not. It's subject to scientific observation, but being trans is not. It's all in the head and our brains are infinitely more similar than different. Imagine as if body dysphoria was cured by starving people-this is the reality for the "cure" of gender dysphoria. This shit is a lot more dark when you get into the nitty gritty.

Fun fact: transitioning was first studied as a way to cure homosexuality by Herschfield, the so-called "grandfather of transition," who all trans people worship. Gender transition is seen as the cure to homosexuality in Iran.

I studied social darwinism in undergrad. I hate these moments where two different historical subjects overlap in very dark ways.
