The only reason for covering up Joe's death I can think of is that would make Kamala President, and there's no way they could remove her from the top of the ticket. Democrats may still be floating the next month as a trial run for Kamala, and if she can't drum up enthusiasm, they can have an open convention and try to find the most electable candidate (or someone who make it close enough to rig).
