Steven Universe Artist Quits Twitter Over Fan Harassment

However, a few fandoms do weird idiosyncratic names for ships. This also makes it hard for non-fandom and newcomers to know what's going on until they learn the terminology.
And sometimes it turns into an extremely advanced form of autism.

On topic, I doubt the older fanbase makes SU more profitable since they most likely buy SU stuff that fans have made like prints. The last time I heard tumblrites even discuss the official merch they were bitching about a book for children or something.

This kind of news about the shit stain dyke fandom harassing staff/creators of the show are disgusting to hear for the sake of the poor people having to put up with these human nutsacks, but the tiny asshole deep inside me finds these things to be music to his ears while waiting for some potential LELfest like fucking serious Steven universe convention.

I'm considering donating if they promise to film the whole clusterfuck for internet. I demand to see this kind of people in one place, better than what dashcon or even las pegasus unicon can offer.

Obvious stigma aside, most of the fandom is actually pretty tame. It's just that the ones that think the shows about them (roughly 30% of the fans I've met ) are very loud and very toxic.

If they record it I guarantee its gonna be a bunch of awkward standing around and halfassed cosplays with 3-4 people making complete asses out of themselves

Already, people think the SU convention, should it actually happen, will be Dashcon 2.0.

I'm inclined to agree.

Yeah, the 30% = the tumblr part of fandom, minus some sane exceptions with job or other continent in their life like kids, wife, own house that isn't mom's basement and rest of the people in tumblr, the fandom there haven't yet harassed off the site or almost killed.

But to off topic about the con a little: I find one of the staff member's (http://zombee.tumblr.com/ - "Beach City Con | su convention i started") tumblr responses about the con interesting. The site of the con leads to here showing people who, I assume, are responsible of the con and compared to dashcon's teenager staff and joke that ran the las pegasus, it doesn't look too bad but..

It is like she severely underestimates what the fandom has managed to do so far, this might lead to okay convention because staff isn't completely unskilled and had run a tiny convention (other question is sure is it enough), but if they sell the tickets to tumblr part of the fandom and manage to collect the most toxic part of the shit in the con and let them see ideologically wrong kind of cosplays, art, panels or some shit, it would be lels x 300.

BTW I don't know is it really professional to whimper about mean comments of your con. It is practically built on the remain of dashcon so of course people will yell "LOL ball pit, ball pit", really doesn't convince me of professionalism.

It's not the way the con is run that people are wary of.

It's the idea of being in a hotel full of the SU fandom, all crammed into one space.

I hope Skinny folks cosplay as Rose at that con.

Then we're guaranteed a reason to throw a bag of popcorn in the microwave.

Forget the popcorn, just put out the whole movie theater concession stand spread, complete with the 21+ bar.

Frankly, I'd be surprised if this SU convention even happens. Then again, Dashcon was spoken of off/on back in the Superwholock days, and after years of false starts, it actually happened (and was effectively the final nail in the coffin for Superwholock itself).

Plus, I don't think the SU fandom has enough financial know-how to run a convention. Dashcon had almost grown-ass adults running the show and they had to solicit for donations in the cringiest way possible. I can't even begin to imagine how a bunch of teenage/young adults who constantly panhandle for money and expensive crap on Tumblr would be able to properly manage finances and the overall logistics of a convention. Because while it may seem simple to the average congoer, there's a LOT of shit that goes on behind the scenes that can make or break a convention, and not just in the realm of money. Just look at Dashcon, Las Pegasus Unicon, Space City Comic Con, and -the mack daddy of them all- the "Ultimate Fantasy" from the 1980's.

I wouldn't be surprised if they could scrape together enough money to do something absolutely disastrous. Money isn't the real hurdle, but that these people are such toxic shitbags that the whole thing would rapidly fall apart in a public disaster followed immediately by dozens of callout blogs where everyone blames everyone else for the failure, meanwhile one or more of the con artists actually steals all the money.

It could be wonderful.

Eh, the people running the planned con know what they're doing, I'm not concerned about that. It's getting that part of the tumblr fandom all in the same area who bully people to the point of suicide that I'm worried about. I'd imagine they'd all tear each other apart.

Well I'll play the devil's advocate now and say that some fandoms in their original sources are a little more flexible to have AU settings and the like (think DC/Marvel and their parallel universe crap or Osomatsu that they do Mad Max parodies, gender-bend AU episodes, and the like), so I think that if the canon kinda supports it, then I suppose there's nothing really wrong with the fandom getting a little creative at least in these specific cases

But I do kinda agree with Luigi and Jewels that some fanfics take the concept of AUs a little too far- like they take an original story with a very clear setting in the past (with no support from canon of AUs) and then suddenly it's all "OOH MODERN AU where the characters form a band and the girls gossip lol". It comes to a point where the setting feels too different and the characters don't even resemble their original selves, like you're reading another completely different thing.

(Coffee shops/High school/mundane modern life are still boring as hell tho).

The only real purpose of AUs is to make hetero characters gay or impose their own fucking weird headcanons on characters to the point that they're not the same character any more.

Also apparently to give every single character vitiligo for reasons I don't understand.

Yes, people will focus on the worst parts of the fandom. That's reality. The majority of Star Trek fans are regular folks who go to work, have families and just really like Star Trek, but everyone remembers the fat Klingon-speaking permavirgins in ill-fitting Starfleet uniforms. The majority of gamers are just people who play games in their spare time, but everyone thinks of the teenage boys screaming racist epithets. That's just the way fandoms look to the outside world.
