Nah. Besides, you know she genuiinely loved trying on clothes and putting on makeup in high school. But then she went to college, where she found a new group of friends that thought being feminine was lame and that being trans is better than being cis. She could have just as easily become a militant vegan, a BLM activist, an Instagram model, a crust punk, or a furry.

Being part of a political motivated clique is better though, it allows you to disown your old friends and family because they're bigots, instead of being honest and admitting they remind you of your past self. I think it's lucky if you go to college and just become an alcoholic. There's treatment programs for alcoholics, but there's no rehab for being an insufferable twat.

In just one year, 2020, over 3200 girls under 18 had breast enhancement surgery, aka a "boob job." Note that this was half the number from the year before, likely due to the pandemic causing hospitals to not have the resources for anything non-critical.

Nobody screams about how 16-year-olds wanting boob jobs are "mutilating their bodies" when they get this surgery, which is known as a kind of gender confirming surgery. The reaction tends to lean more towards bow-chicka-bow-wow, even with the young age. [barf]

From 2019-2021, three years, 800 trans minors got breast removals and there were just 56 genital surgeries. By far, almost all surgeons refuse to do genital surgeries on people under 18 mostly due to that being when the majority of body growth has concluded. No surgeries are done on young children. We're talking 16-18 here.

It is not my place to dictate how strangers should live their lives, so long as their decisions pose no threat to the liberty, welfare, and rights of others.

But the Hurt Feelings Police feel that a child who thinks they're not the gender they were born in is "in danger" and not stopping them is "endangering their welfare."

If a kid born as a boy decides they want to be a girl and wear girl clothing and be called by a girl name, who does it hurt? Nobody except the feelings of conservatives who feel the need to control what everyone else does in their private lives.

It's really common for kids under 6 or 7 to wear whatever clothing they find comfortable, whether it's pants or skirts or dresses or neckties or PJs. Letting them explore without guilt is an important part of developing their own identity. It's not something that automatically guarantees they'll be part of the LGBTQ+ communities. But shaming them for their choices is a good way to install unnecessary guilt over natural curiosity and make them wonder what else about themselves is going to be called "wrong" or "bad."

And then if it turns out they are trans or something else, they already know they can't count on you for love and support. Which is your job as a parent.

(Now remembering when my nephew was about 3 and he and his 4-year-old sister were out in their backyard hunting for four-leaf clovers, while wearing matching dresses. The 3-year-old was wearing his oldest sister's dress that matched the 4-year-old's. We all found this hilarious not because "boy wearing a dress ha ha" but because the older sister's dress fit him like a circus tent, with the added awwwww that they wanted to wear matching clothing.)
