Was the hate against Undertale justified 9 or so years later?

It's a pretty good game, I had massive amounts of fun playing it when it was new. The fanbase is cringe because 99% of it is comprised of trannies and 12 year olds, so you don't wanna be browsing the subreddit, reading fanfiction or playing fangames of it. But the game is good.

I guess it started a bunch of trends that have become really overplayed since then, like putting a strong focus on muh mentals, played up 4th wall breaks, mixing childish themes with severe body horror, getting all meta about game mechanics or some specific character quirks. But even if I can't stand some of that shit now I can't hold it against Undertale since at the time it was all mostly fine and even original.

The game itself deserves a playthrough if you like Earthbound. I know it's impossible to go in fully blind in the year 2024 but try at least one playthrough where you follow your gut and maybe try to RP as the child.

The fandom itself and the stuff they spawned is very hit or miss. There's some good fanventures, just like with homestuck, and there's a lot of fucking cringe shit that should be avoided at all costs, again just like homestuck.

The original hate came from people who dislike FOTMs. It was justified as FOTM sucks 95% of the time.
The later hate came from people accidentally interacted with AUtistic fans on the Internet. It was (and still is) justified.

Undertale is an alright game. It has novel mechanics (They were pretty new and refreshing at the time of release), a memorable cast, and a pretty good soundtrack. I played through most of the game and enjoyed it but didn't care to beat it. It's not really a game that invokes a feeling of animosity towards it, unless you really like indie RPG's and believe after Undertale's release all of them tried to become copies of Undertale.

The fanbase that spawned from it is rather hateable.

I started undertale not long ago without knowing really anything about it at all other than hearing it's supposed to be good. I've played maybe an hour or so of it and so far I don't really like it and I'm probably not going to keep playing it. It's not horrible but I don't really get what the fuss is about. It's just sort of meh.

The soundtrack is good. That’s really about it. Deltarune is far better mechanically so undertale doesn’t really have gameplay going for it. The story is ok at best. I think the creator of the game would just make a far better composer than an actual game designer. The former he’s very good at.

I would hang around in some artist places and around the time the kickstarter for Undertale went live we started getting inundated with requests for this goat woman pregnant/giving birth/shitting/pissing. Which, turns out was Toriel.

The first trailer for the game has some not very funny "this isnt actually in the game" stuff with a t-posing 3d model, which immediately put me off on the comedy.

The game then came out and I was gifted it 3 times on steam in the first week by people who wanted me to play it (because I didnt redeem it, so it wasn't counted as owned by me to the other two people)

I then redeemed it and played until Sans showed up. Was bored for the most part, and when the puns came out I turned it off and never picked it back up.

In other words, the writing wasn't my cup of tea but I could've probably warmed up to playing it, but the fans have basically cemented that I'll never bother after giving the worst impression I can think of of the game.

It's a good game but as others said the fandom is or was another level of retardation and personally put me off from playing it for years
Even then I sorta feel the game is a stain on the Mother/Earthbound franchise because now a lot of people instantly think of Undertale the moment you mention earthbound and not just that but it also spawned numerous indie game clones that try to be like Undertale and fail
however I do like it still along with Deltarune too but it cannot be ignored the positives and also more severe negatives undertale had

Undertale itself is not that bad for what was mostly a one man team, Toby Fox(?) is an talented and accomplished game designer and composer.

I personally did not enjoy Undertale. I found the game a little too preachy at times and I didn't particularly like any of the characters. It doesn't help that my partner (at the time) and I had a disagreement over something in the game and that dumb shit wound up being a bad cut (but our relationship was already strained at that point so stupid insignificant shit like this was bound to make it worse). Left a sore spot for me.

But the fanbase is what made Undertale completely insufferable to me. Just literally the absolute worst fucking people glommed onto that game and made it their entire identity. 99% of these people would go on to become the histrionic trannies and genderspecials that pollute the internet today. Undertale just attracted the absolute dregs of society in flocks. Real human trash.

In hindsight I think the game is severely overrated for what it was.
