The timing of the deal is interesting.Nick getting desperate to keep his numbers up. What they really should do is offer a free month with no strings attached. Give people a taste of what they'd be buying before having to commit to a full year. But "locking them in before they realized what they signed up for" was how he started his Locals so this tracks.
I wonder if there's an expectation that memberships might drop dramatically when annual subscriptions made last fall don't renew. I wonder what the breakdown of how many people signed up for a a full year.
That doesn't feel right to me. My understanding is that Crowder actually has a coherent business model where he does actual shows people want to watch behind a paywall.Supposedly Rackets is just over or under 5000 locals subscribers, and crowder is over 80,000. That feels about right.
Rekieta's Locals success had nothing to do with a coherent business model. He was briefly permanently banned from YT and people subscribed to show their support to him. He very quickly accumulated over 5k subs. But he also quickly was unbanned from YT and signed a deal with Rumble which he continually bragged about being extremely lucrative. He's had nearly a year to develop a business model and hasn't really done so. The value proposition is you pay $5/month to get access to a chat room where you can interact with a threat-shouting former homeless meth addict or women freaking out about being cut off from Xanax. The Locals exclusive streams seem to typically be held late at night after his already late night streams, and they seem to largely consist of Nick seething about how hard life and streaming is, as well as his legal issues, while sitting in a hot tub or standing in the kitchen stuffing his face with ramen.
What he should have done if he was so obsessed with the Friday "fun streams" is make them a Locals exclusive instead of polluting his main channel with it, but I guess he wanted to make it the main event each week on his channel.
People should not assume that Nick is still at 5k subs just because that was the last number Nick gave an update for. I'm pretty sure he briefly raised the prospect of a 10k sub gift which then got dropped. My suspicion is he didn't make it much past 5k before growth turned negative.
