I agree for the most part with your opinion it is despicable behavior to start charging for something like API calls however I think you could have articulated the point without the massive pearl clutching in relation to blind Reddit users. These apps could also always just move to scraping the site instead, which is the based way to obtain info from sites.

Huge props for taking the high road and interpreting his behavior charitably, but I really don't believe it will do any good. He hates you because you post on this site, no amount of logical argumentation will ever change this. He has already displayed his propensity for lying by claiming Byuu committed suicide with absolutely zero proof. It's like you always say - never accept the premise of assholes. Hector Martin is an asshole. His technological knowhow doesn't change this. I just hope it doesn't hurt right to repair, so I feel that it's necessary for you to be warned.

Thanks for being free thinking individual enough to come here. I really enjoy ur vids talking about repairs as it gets so tiring that now its a common thread for people on forums to constantly just reply to questions with "just get a new x". While I disagree with your take on linux being a waste of time (kinda biased since I've been using linux since 13) you're inspiring a lotta people to not go with the whole get a new x attitude and actually repair their shit.

Whilst this is correct, ask yourself this - If you can plainly see the guy is a liar, would you trust running his code on your laptop? You didn't want to trust GrapheneOS once you saw Micay go off the deep end, neither should you trust the stuff that Martin produces. Nor will I. Not to mention a virtual anime avatar or a guy who decided to cut his penis off.

Louis probably won't be running Asahi Linux on his computers anytime soon. He has no reason to.
He still respects Daniel Micay and says people should use GrapheneOS as long as they aren't the target of his ire.

All things considered Asahi is really impressive, literally being the first alternative OS you could install on apple silicon. However, considering just how much Louis dislikes modern macs lack of repairability and the fact that you basically have to compile everything you want to run on the m1 he wouldn't even need to consider the person behind it in order to be swayed away from it.

I don't think he's lying to others, or to me. I think that on this particular issue, he lies to himself, and then tells others the truth as he believes it. We've all done this at one point in our life. Self deception is an art form.
The major complaint about kiwifarms, among content creators, is that people will harass/say mean things about you/encourage other people to fuck with your life, and you cannot delete the thread or request that the thread on you be deleted. This is technically true; good luck stopping people from talking about you on the internet, especially on a site you can only access via TOR!!!
Let's say for a minute, that this is all true - that this is an evil place that solely exists to fuck with famous people, around my subscriber count. After news came out about it, I searched for myself, and wow, a 15 page thread on me!! What can I do at that point?
My thought process is simple. If people are going to be shittalking me on a platform large enough to make the rounds in mainstream news for screwing up their lives... and I have no control over that conversation existing or not... why not be in the room for it? It's been my strategy in real life and has done me well for a long time. I have been in the room with people who have tried to destroy my company. I've even had lunch with them or been to their birthday parties, and talked to their friends & family.
I see no reason for it to not be my strategy online.
I am not here to do anything other than post clarifications in my own thread, about my own actions, thought processes, and belief systems. and hell, maybe convert a few people to seeing my perspective on things. Someone above even said they might consider being less of a piece of shit instead of calling caring about others pearl clutching - that's a win for me! Actually brightens my coal shaped heart for a second to read it, honestly. And I think it's obvious to anyone who cares to take 5 seconds to look, that that is what I am doing here.
His view is different. He hates this place so much, that he assumes someone posting here must be posting here because they are complicit in the harassment of *others*, rather than monitoring the potential harassment of themselves. Because he has a negative opinion of me, as a result of the movement I am associated with(right to repair people who blindly scream serialization) and as a result of someone else whose skills he respects hating me(graphene dev), he isn't looking into what I type here, or what I do here. His preconceived notion of me is already negative, so when he sees that I have posted here, that's it. There's no reason for him to click my account to see what I post, how I post, why I post... the context of it, none of that matters at that point.
He's not lying about what I do here. I think he genuinely believes that I am here to organize harassment, rather than keep tabs on my own thread, and then he tells other people what he genuinely believes. All people, even good people, can be blinded by their preconceived notions or by hatred. I'm not going to convert or change that by willfully blinding myself as well. It just hurts my ability to move forward and gain the support of more people for right to repair, and in my own life.
Maybe I'm wrong. I'm always open to being wrong. If I am, time will tell. Until then....

That's the difference between you and Hector Martin, Daniel Micay, anyone else who hates this site. You see criticism of you as an opportunity to clarify things and have a discussion. Even Byuu did, before he tried various gayops to try getting his thread deleted. Those people abhor any criticism of them online and want it all deleted.
Just as an example that isn't KF, Hector Martin routinely complains about comments on Hacker News whenever people post links to Asahi Linux, to the point that he implemented a big "fuck you" message on his site to anyone who visited Hacker News in the past.

Is that not just a roundabout way of lying to others? It's one thing if you internalize the lie and keep it to yourself. That would be self deception. However, it's another thing if you lie to yourself and then tell others that lie, or "truth" as you believe. It's no longer self deception as it's involving more people than just oneself.

Generally speaking, if someone gets shittalked here, it's because there's a good reason for it and there is documentation of one's shitty behavior that led to it. As for harrassment, the site has a general "don't engage with the people you laugh at" rule, and whenever someone breaks it they are shunned by the rest of the community. If you were to go to the Internet Famous board, and open up the main post of any thread of a high profile content creator, you will find a lot of documented behavior of that person. If that person is universally hated and not merely mocked and laughed at, chances are that they've done or said some really despicable things that they've tried to scrub off of the Internet, but it's been archived on the site for everyone to see themselves.
Also, if the perceived harassment only exists within this forum and it hasn't affected a person directly before they started reading it, the issue is within the person reading the site and not people posting on it. If this site's opinion of you hasn't affected you before reading it, and you've personally entered your thread to read the more negative things people have to say about you, then you shouldn't have read it in the first place.
And a lot of the apparent direct harassment that came from the site has never been proven to be directly linked to the site. This site has a lot of enemies that love to do shitty things to people discussed on the site and then blaming the site for doing so so that we get shit for it even though the person who did it never had an active account here.
If you come to this site with the mindset of it being the most hateful place on the web and start lashing out at users, you will get mocked. If you approach it as if you would any other community you will get a much friendlier response, assuming you don't have any skeletons that you tried to keep in the closet but the site made sure that they stay out of it. The general opinion that people on the site have about other people varies from respect, mockery and hatred, depending on how respectable or how despicable a given person is, users of this site tend to be fairer that the general consensus might lead to believe.
A good example of that is UncleSamPatriot, a barely known weirdo from Finland. He quickly figured out he had a thread here, joined the site and was very friendly towards the users here, and the users here were friendly towards him. Even though he was a weirdo and people found him funny, as far as the site knew he was harmless, and he was friendly towards the users so he didn't get any hate when he joined.
Of course, this site's culture also has some elements of more toxic sites such as 4chan where being a cunt towards everyone is seen as being cool and hip, but not everyone here is like that, and I hope that people will tone it down whenever they try to talk to someone who isn't "in the know" with the site's culture who tries to be friendly.
For example, Hector Martin is generally despised by this userbase due to the fact that he has been on a crusade against the site along with people such as Keffals and Liz Fong-Jones due to the fact that the site documents a lot of shitty behavior of those people and their friends which they'd want to be gone from the Internet permanently. In a spoiler below I've included my brief summary of why Hector is hated by the users of this site.
Now, of course, this is my bias due to me being a user of this site, if you wish to read through those events from the site's perspective yourself and then cross-reference them with the main narrative found on news sites and Wikipedia, here's the thread in which those events have been discussed, starting with a message from the site's owner posting his e-mail exchange with Byuu: /threads/byuu-byuu_nyan-setsunakun0-near.43056/post-9313342
Pro-tip: use the highlight feature in the top right corner of posts to skim through posts faster. And do keep in mind that a lot of responses are rather hostile due to the nature of the site and what Byuu's and Hector's actions has led to for the site, but they aren't necessarily just blind hatred.
He has repeatedly mentioned how Byuu/Near has committed suicide because of the site, even though on the site it's clear that when Byuu contacted Null, the site's owner, the first thing he tried to do is "I'll pay you x dollars if you delete my thread or I will kill myself", which was text book extortion. Null wanted to offer him a job at helping out with making new forum software, however before he could send him an offer, Byuu allegedly committed suicide and placed the blame on the site.
However, the issue is that Hector Martin's proof of Byuu being dead is a description of events with no proof behind them that he personally was on the phone with Byuu when he was committing suicide, and also an urn that is presumed to contain Byuu's remains. However, Hector lives in Hong Kong while Byuu lives in Japan. They weren't related making it weird for Byuu's remains to go to Hector instead of his family, and also Hector has never shown a death certificate of Byuu, and by what he's saying he would be close enough to him to have that.
Now, assuming that Byuu was still a US citizen, that would mean that his death would've been reported to the US government by Japan. However throughout the entire year in which those events took place not a single US citizen has died by those statistics, while Hector Martin cannot show any substantial proof that would prove that Byuu is in fact dead. Therefore Hector is constantly spreading lies about the site to antagonize it so that people won't enter it and read about people like him.

You have to understand that Hector Martin has an agenda against the site and will do anything and will throw anyone under the bus, as long as it means that people will believe this website is the most evil place on the Internet, he doesn't try to be reasonable, he just reacts and acts.
However you don't have any agenda around the site, you've approached it like any other forum, and you've engaged in conversation on the site, even if it is just your own thread. That's the big difference between you and him, he despises this site and will do anything to make sure it stays down, while you see it as any other website and any other community.
Now, I know that what I'm saying is biased due to me being a long time user of the site, and I know that you always question everything that you read or hear, so you won't believe that Hector is irrational and can't be reasoned with just because people on the site say so. Perhaps if you read more about Hector from the site's perspective you'll at least be able to better understand why he lashes out on you for posting here. Unfortunately this site is universally hated and all the information that you might find about it on Wikipedia is heavily biased against it, and the only place where the other side of the coin is presented is ironically this site, which right now is only accessible via Tor and a .pl domain that's like the n-th Clearnet domain due to the ongoing campaign to take the website down by harassing Tier 1 ISP's TLD registrars and many other high level institutions.
By the way, if you bothered to read this far, or even read this at all, the site's owner, Null, perhaps would be open for discussion about what's been happening with the site as it is a rather serious issue that I think you'd be interested in knowing about. The fact that a site that has never been in any direct conflict in the US law is constantly being refused to be hosted by Tier 1 ISP's such as Hurricane Electric just because of mass complaints with no notices being sent to the sites owner is asinine and can set a dangerous precedence where no one will be able to host their own website as all that will take to take it down is to send mass complaints to the companies that are the part of the Internet backbone to shut it down on a global network level.

- Hector didn't say he was on the call with Byuu committing suicide, he says it was someone else (an unknown person) who was. Of course, this is only if you believe that Hector didn't just write the document himself and claim it was someone else to avoid responsibility for his lies.
- The urn wasn't sent to Hector, it was posted by Wayne Beckett, his alleged employer (or colleague?). Whether this means it was sent to Wayne or a picture was sent to Wayne is unclear.
- Hector claims to live in Tokyo, not Hong Kong. It's Wayne who is presumed to live in Hong Kong.

Hector Martin is the archetypal bullshitter as defined by Harry G. Frankfurt in his magnum opus, "On Bullshit".
For those not familiar with "On Bullshit", Harry opines that there's a clear difference between the liar and the bullshitter: the liar accepts that the truth exists and deliberately opposes it. As counterintuitive as it sounds, the liar has respect for the truth.
On the other hand, the bullshitter has no respect for the truth or the lie. They create their own narrative from the ground up, which frequently includes a kernel of the truth; often by design, but sometimes completely by accident. This is why the bullshitter is so dangerous, especially when they have a platform.
