One of the things i didn't know about before, but which fascinates me is the way the skin moves over the Penis. I expected it it be floppy and the same consistency all the way through. But similar to a natal penis, there is a very apparent difference between the outer skin layer and the constructed urethra inside. It has limits, but it allows the sensation of "skin sliding over skin" to some degree, if that makes sense. No it is not normal, not that any of this is normal. It’s a huge risk for infection, fluid imbalance etc. a huge wound like that with a large surface area needs closing / securing as soon as is possible. It must also be incredibly painful.
It won’t be hard to change the dressings if she’s got someone competent but let’s hope her troon mate washes their hands. It’ll look nasty at the end, not that any of these arm wounds look good. They’re such horrendous wounds. They remind me of degloving injuries.

I know I’m beating a dead horse here, but seeing her video updates is so fascinating to me because of all the body language present. I keep seeing so much pain in her face and the way she holds her body and hands. A lot of the time her expressions and body language are contradicting what she is saying - her entire narrative is that she is supposedly still living a normal-ish life and bravely battling these side effects that go with her end goal and it’s all going to be all right. But there’s just so much pain. Even the entire concept of “it’s not supposed to heal” is just obvious planned pain. Secondly, I don’t understand the choice of angle for the videos - her hands are very much in focus and you can see how she feels about things, in the first videos she is squeezing her fist closed so hard she’s literally white-knuckling it through. In all the videos she’s also trying to create a safe space for herself using the hands etc.

One month post-op - abdominal w/ Dr. Gupta. Details in comments

In spite of the hellish nightmare my surgical experience has been, it hasn't been a total write off. I have a dick! I'm fairly pleased, though from the looks of things I didn't get the size I was told I would have and I don't like how the incisions were placed- I feel like it makes my stomach look weird. The left is pretty perfect but on the right the incision line is much lower and that makes it stick out a lot more. I kind of hate it but there's not anything I can really do at this point in time. I did also end up with some scars on my dick that I wasn't expecting so that's been kind of weird to adjust too as well.

My dick has a bit of a curve from the uneven incisions and having to pack straight up has made it worse, but as I'm able to spend some time not packing it's straightening itself out. It looks so much better than it did a week and a half ago.

I had some stitches split before I even came around after surgery. It started out as a 1"x.5" area of open skin and has been healing slowly. I had some minor wound separation and after three weeks that's ~98% closed.

Sensation is okay so far, fair in the bottom ~half. I had an ilioinguinal nerve hookup but it was never really explained to me what that means in terms of sensation so that's a fun little journey I'm on.

The thing I'm probably happiest about is how good I look in basketball shorts now.

Why even bother? Great, you are taking testosterone, but you're not a male, just a woman who's given herself PCOS. Great, you got "top surgery" but all it did was bring attention to your lack of a male ribcage, neck and skull. Other than the skin, what holds it on?

Like when you tug on a real dick, there's the feeling that it's rooted in the pelvis, like there are underlying structures holding the thing on there.

Thinking about it, is the area below the skin (ideally) just fatty tissue, and can fatty tissue internally bond to itself in a meaningful way or is it literally just held on by the skin?

during the surgery they have some nerves re-routed and also blood vessels attached. if they have urethral lengthening then that is sewn in, too. None of these things are going to be as stable as a normal structure because there is going to be weakness at the points where it gets attached. the urethra is especially a weakness since they can't actually harvest spare urethra, they have to improvise with skin and possibly buccal (cheek) tissue. If the thing doesn't rot off then the body grows blood vessels to supply the tissue, which provides some structure. The comparison of a skin tag seems apt to me. Or maybe it is more like that giga-fats that grow protruding fat lumps? either way: skin, scars, and blood vessels are what keep it all together. A normal male has a continuous urethra and connective tissue that can't be easily replicated. OTOH these things never have a normal erection to support, the weight of it is essentially the same all the time so it may have adequate support. only time will tell what ultimately happens. its a science experiment.

Some of the erectile implants use metal plates to anchor it to the pubic bone.

its kind of horrifying to realize that there is someone this dumb for every surgeon who branches out to new procedures. think of how many bariatric surgeons there are- virtually none of them trained for that in med school. many of them took a fucking weekend seminar. I assume that gender surgery operates a similar racket of training surgeons in the process, which is 90% teaching how to get patients to agree to this, and 10% how to perform the operation. I wish I were joking.

The closest I've seen was a buddy of mine who tore open his forearm while he was hiking in Panama, and the group he was with had to improvise because they where a two day trek through some rough terrain before they could reach even a small town, so they did the best job they could, anyway during the hike back the stitching job burst halfway along, and to cut a long story short he now has this huge gnarly scar on his forearm about 8 inches long but widening about halfway along it to about 3 inches wide of scar tissue.
Amazing it never got infected (or hit an artery or nerve damage but thats another story).
Thats what these troon arms look like, horrific accidents with improv and botched suturing.

I can’t help but feel that *even if* she’d asked the question, and *even if* the surgeon had been honest with his answer, she’d have just gone ahead anyway, because, “I have to have this life-saving surgery!”

At least this way she can use it for cope material now she’s dealing with the post-op reality. If she’d found out in advance and gone ahead anyway you can bet she’d never have mentioned that bit because it would reflect badly on her. This way: “Waaaah, the mean man didn’t tell me!
