Sophie Labelle's Assigned Male - Original Thread - The Incredible Adventures of Stephie (Who Won't Shut Up About Being Trans)

In short, another comic saying that 'assigning' gender based on sex to newborns is harmful and creates cis privilege and that cis people should learn to explore their gender identity and become the demi/agender/genderfluids they were supposed to be.

IMO, both sides have valid points. On one hand, labels create an 'us vs them' mentality and that people will make up labels to be special snowflakes. On the other hand, using (official, scientifically proven) labels can help people in need to form support groups, as well as to provide quick information about an individual. It's a shame both sides were so resistant to debate.
The term cis seems to be a term intended for academic and medical papers when talking about trans and non trans people, not used in every day conversation, it'd be like if autistic people went around demanding every non autistic be called neurotypical instead of saying they have autism.

I thought "cis" was originally a chemical term. It was adopted by trans people because somebody found the "trans" prefix and had a bit of chemistry experience to find that there was the "cis" prefix and then needed a unknown slur against the Other, so they started the whole cisscum bullshit.

Here's a good article on the old uses of cis and trans in chemistry. Which I am too drunk tonight to make a whole lot of sense of.

I always equate this Tumblrina SJW bullshit with kids. Like, teenage kids who want to be special somehow when they don't feel special. And everything is sooooo unfair! They're just fifteen-year-olds who think they know all there is about the world and life and sex and everything... at fifteen! That's Tumblr to me, and why I avoid it (which is too bad because there are actually good artists I like who hang out there). These Tumblrinas, though, they either co-op or just outright make up all these bullshit gender terms and buzzwords and shit. In the end, they wind up doing more harm than good to people with the actual real issues by making them and their problems look silly.

Sooooo... would this mean that Labelle keeps churning out these strips where the characters whine and bitch constantly that they're being oppressed and maligned by a hostile society instead of accepted completely at face value, but openly admits that she doesn't want society to accept her and transgender people at face value? I must admit that I had trouble hearing what she was saying; the sound quality is dreadful, Labelle's accent careens about the place like a drunken sailor, and she sure as hell hasn't taken any form of voice therapy. Instead she sounds like a man trying very hard to be gay; "camp as a row of pink tents" as I heard someone say once. And then there's the stereotypical movements, body language and limp wristed hand waving.

This isn't a transgender woman; this is a guy in drag. I have never (knowingly) met a transgender person, but even I can see that Labelle's entire way of speaking and moving is suspiciously overt. She/he wants to be noticed. She/he doesn't want people to see her/him as a woman, a transgender person who's successfully transitioned. She/he just want to be seen.

Jesus fuck. Read the comics and it's easy to see that Labelle has some major identity issues, but seeing that 'interview'- how can anyone who sees and hears her/him even consider for a single second that Labelle is a role model for transgender people? Labelle is taking everyone for a ride with absolute clarity and purpose. It's a power trip. And it's starting to turn into a financially profitable one.

See, this is why culture needs graffiti.

Well, considering that if LaBelle stopped complaining about non-issues, he's probably lose his "job" as an "artist".
It's very insightful though, to see that LaBelle wants to be specul, because that explains why his character, his comic even, are based around nothing but putting Stephie on a pedestal.

Just Hypothetically speaking, if the comic would go that Frank actually accepts all the jibberish Stephie is spewing (Which it just might do), it wouldn't stop Stephie from bringing up other problems, new problems. Maybe at one point she'll tell Frank that he needs to start wearing dresses to undo the "gendered clothing" despite him feeling comfortable with doing what he's doing.
No matter what happens, Stephie will find something new to bitch about, effectively not even working towards a goal that she could reach. Just like LaBelle, that thinks she is doing the world a favor with these comics.

I still think, LaBelles dick insecurity is making him do this. He can claim his comfortablness with it as much as he wants, I am not buying it.

Frank will probably just end up accepting it and disappearing from from the comic altogether with the exception of a possible cameo in one of the inevitable occasions when Stephie will need some more validation. He's already been converted to Stephie way of thinking, and having someone have any second thoughts about this that can't be resolved in the course of one or two comics is story-telling too complex for Labelle. The only truly incorruptible character in the comic is Sandro's grandfather—all others will ultimately agree with Stephie.

So why bitch about being actually treated as something special and different?
If you're not bitching, chances are you're not special enough and need to rectify this issue.

C'est homosexuelle et unrealistique.
