Fun fact: the difference between Kiev and Kyiv is a difference between Ukrainian and Russian, as the Russian name is Киев and the Ukrainian name is Київ. Kiev is not ‘outdated’, it’s just a romanization based off of a different language, and since Ukrainian is kind of a bullshit language (less Slavicly ‘pure’), it’s better to use the Russian romanization in my opinion. Either Kiev or Kiyev would be correct. Kiyev uses the more modern practice of adding wye to distinguish between Е (ye) and Э (e).
