That particular law was on the books for a whole two parliaments, and was ditched almost as soon as the current government reached office. On paper its a good idea, in practise it results in all the batshits and fruitloops going "If we hold the balance of power" while salivating and resulted in the May Minority Administration which everyone fucking hated.
It also hamstrung her from calling another election from breaking the deadlock and did the same for BoJo until he got a simple majority passed to call for fresh elections, mostly using the Liberal Democrats who always love a good election.
They never fucking win them, but they like fighting them.

Lmao this blockade might ironically yield more bang than Ottawa in the near future. Alberta's premier Kenney is going to have to make a choice very soon where he stands on it and what he's prepared to do. Simply saying it's the Mounties' responsibility to shut it down as he has been isn't going to work for long when the RCMP want political cover for any crackdown (to avoid getting blamed directly).
